Angiil the Earthen Maid

Angiil Rivval

A legendary figure of Clan Sinachar, and one of the three dragon-slayers that gave them their sigil. Angiil is of the "Prior Blood" (meaning before the Liddinawths and Brevessars wed into their line), but is thought to be either one of the Viisianars who wed a Sinachar, or else a child of such a union. Many of the myths surrounding Angiil have her marrying a Sinachar as a reward for his aid in slaying the dragon, or else claiming him as a reward for her brave deeds.   Unlike Revas Redtooth or Garimus of the Gilded Wings, Angiil's title does not connect her to any particular weapon or tool. As such, countless legends have arisen on just how she managed to slay the dragon: gold and silver axes, a giant's sling, an arrow made of lightning; in one particularly beloved story, she covers herself in bacon grease and waits for the dragon to eat her, then stabs it through the brain with a spear as soon as it tosses her into its mouth.   Of the three dragon slayers, only Angiil's dragon is given a name. Most call it Itherion, a reference to one of the ancient Monsters from under the sea (and a dragon whose death is more oft attributed to Laoch Torin), but some legends name the beast Cymurhian.   Genev the Terrible spelt a long treatise connecting Angiil with Rhiann of Collor, who supposedly brought Host Keeping to Revellia, suggesting that Cymurhian may be an allusion to Rhiann, himself a symbol for the forced conversion under Cenedras the Liar, with Angiil representing a sort of pre-Hostly purity: a combination of the glorious Orckid Empire and the warrior spirit of the Deinain worshipping Leante of old.
