Quest Log

Main Objective

To decide where to place our party's energy, time, and talents: Resolve the Civil War in Mar Tesaro, Defeat Balor, Escape Mar Tesaro and rendezvous with Faelan Coppervin in Eduvi, or another endeavor.

Primary Quests

Quest: The Lich King, Balor
  • Description: The Lich King, Balor, was released from the tomb of Luken Silverbend.
  • Status: Active
  • Quest Giver: Magistrate Noreeno
  • Party Lead: N/A
  • Goal: Destroy the Phylactery (the Orb) and thwart Balor the Lich King.
  • Method: Learn all we can from the orb to destroy it safely.
  • Timeline: It's going to take a while to decipher everything and we'll have to keep moving to stay in front of Balor.
    • 1st of Frostend: We currently have a 3.5-5hr. headstart as Balor will not rise until nightfall.
  • Warning: We've already learned the orb has protections from being destroyed, we should err on the side of caution.
  • Progress Toward Objective:
    • Deciphering the Orb: Party Lead: Asira
      • Evil
        • (1hr.) The evil spells on this orb were placed by Balor. They trace around the surface of the orb in a strange manner that seems to confise the eyes. These spells seem to be a series of traps placed on the phlactery to discourage anyone from attempting to destroy it.
        • (2hrs.) This spell will cause the orb to release a massive spell of death when destroyed. This spell covers everything within 100 miles of the owner, striking with a (level 20) spell of death. Of those who do not survive the spell (which will be nearly everyone), a third will rise again as grave walkers.
        • (3hrs.)
        • (4hrs.)
      • Good
        • (1hr.) These good spells seem to have been added after all of the evil spells. They intersect and combine with the spells already on the sphere. Whoever inscribed these must have been a brilliant mage, since they were able to build good spells using mostly the components of evil spells.
        • (2hrs.)
        • (3hrs.)
        • (4hrs.)
      • Knowledge
        • (1hr.) By studying the languages and spells used on the orb, you can gain insights that may aid in future attempts to decipher it.
        • (2hrs.) By mapping what languages are used, you have found some interesting patterns that will make future attempts easier. This grants +2 to future rolls.
        • (3hrs.)
        • (4hrs.)
      • Ownership
        • (1hr.) One person is recognized as the owner of the orb. They become the owner once they take the orb, and remain the owner until another is chosen. The spells controlling this seem to be both good and evil. Perhaps ownership was devised by Balor and later altered by someone else.
        • (2hrs.) The owner must take the orb willingly, so pickpocketing the item onto another, or simply throwing it at them, will not cause the orb to change ownership. A creature must in some way, accept the object in order to become the new owner.
        • (3hrs.)
        • (4hrs.)
    • Evading the Lich King:
    • Destroying the Orb:

Side Quests

Quest: The Liberation of Linus
  • Description: Free Linus from his servitude to the Queen of the Illiyans.
  • Status: Active
  • Quest Giver: Party Members
  • Party Lead: N/A
  • Goal: Locate Linus in one of the smaller villages in the South of Mar Tesaro, where he is in servitude as part of the Queen's special guard.
  • Method: To restore his free will, the party must pull the leather strap under his magical helmet and remove it.
  • Timeline: We need to find and free Linus before making our way off of Mar Tesaro island. We recieved a set of travel papers for him.
  • Warning: The southern Queen of the Illidians is controlling these soldiers through the helmets so Linus will not be himself when we find him. He may fight us. We should also take care not to get caught ourselves as it seems this would be the practice for those discovered as outsiders.

  Quest: The Book of Norvus
  • Description: The text reveals a dark history of Dwarven conquest and an elven curse of "constant war" on Mar Tesoro.
  • Status: Ongoing translation
  • Quest Giver: Chronicler Rhillos in Fol Thron
  • Goal: To decipher the entire text and learn what we can about the history while determining any deeper meaning or context. Potentially get the reward for deciphering it.
  • Method: Translation 1 page at a time.
  • Timeline:
    • Pages Deciphered so Far: 8
  • Warning: None yet

Personal Quests

Dubac Culinary Ambitions and Business Ventures
  • Culinary Mastery: He is dedicated to expanding his repertoire of recipes and techniques. This includes learning specific dishes, like the Displacer Beast sandwich from a stall owner, and introducing new flavors to local populations, such as serving chicken soup and gnocchi in Jolana Village. Most recently, he has been experimenting with Kimchi and consulting with professional chefs on the nuances of cabbage.
  • Entrepreneurial Growth: Dubac is actively building a brand and a business. He has been seen performing hibachi-style shows to attract customers in Crossway and selling specialty items like fried venison bacon.
  • Logistics and Maintenance: He takes personal responsibility for the party's travel gear, specifically investing 20 gold to have a carpenter build a reinforced set of wheels and axles for the pull-cart to ensure the party (and his kitchen supplies) can travel efficiently. This cart was left behind as a food stall in Crossway when we fled.
Haldrick Reclaim his ancestral home island, Lone Hammer Mountain
  • Clan Diplomacy: He is actively negotiating with various dwarven factions to secure their support for his cause.
  • The Fjall Clan Deal: During his visit to Mar Tesoro, he struck a specific deal with the Fjall clan, offering his help in exchange for their future military or political aid.
  • Broadening Support: He consistently seeks to gain sympathy and formal alliances from other groups, including the Njorden and Skjoinel Clans, the Genowa Traders, and warrior groups like The Shield and Axe Maker's Peak.
Mariana Growth as a warrior and her deep connection to the Culinary Arts
  • Protecting the Vulnerable: Mariana is driven by a strong protective instinct, which was most evident when she took the lead in rescuing the missing children from the wizard Vormoth in Jolana Village.
  • The Master Baker's Path: As a dedicated baker, she is constantly looking for ways to combine her combat skills with her craft, such as looking for ingredients like Cinderroot or rare sugars to perfect her recipes.
  • Bonding with BonBon: She shares a unique bond with her magical companion, the Cinnahampster, and often spends her downtime nurturing this relationship.
Asira To protect homeland, clan, and nature from “the great threat.”
  • Investigating the "Old and Dark" Energy: Asira is actively tracking a rising malevolent force. Her mentor, Faelan Coppervin, warned her of this energy, which she has recently linked to the "sealed tomb" on Khelberg and the release of the Lich King, Balor.
  • Mentor Correspondence: She maintains a high-priority quest to keep Faelan updated on the party's status and the unfolding situation in the archipelago. She has sent multiple letters to him, including a recent update about being stranded.
  • Herbalism and Alchemy: Asira is dedicated to gathering components, recently Lullaby Lavender, Cinderroot, Graveflower, and Nightshade. These serve her goals of crafting remedies or utility items for the party.
  • The Care of Mt. Fiore's Legacy: Having translated a few pages of The Book of Norvus, Asira has taken a personal interest in the history of the Mountain Elves and the spirit of the mountain. She may become the primary researcher into how this ancient folklore connects to the party's current reality.
