Whymníum

Properties

Material Characteristics

The material in its ore looks almost like petrified caramel with a heavily orange shine, while it rather looks similar to brass yet with a stronger hint of yellow with spots of brown in the manufactured bars.   Liquefied the metal looks most tasty as it is almost hard to compare to that of soft caramel. Key difference is the fact Whymníum requires more than a thousand degrees to melt, so, don’t even think about eating it.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Despite being very hard and compact to a point that its sturdier than steel, the material still remains rather flexible and warm to the touch, similar to that of body temperature even. Due to this and the fact that Whymníum can be formed into threads make it the perfect material for winter wear!   Never mind the fact that it has the ability to grow together with and copy the traits of bone and nerve, thus making it a miracle in the modern healing arts.

Geology & Geography

The ore is most abundant on northbound locations and commonly found higher up in mountain regions of the world. One of its largest mines can be found inside the dwarven village of Skyburrow.

Origin & Source

Whymníum is processed from Whymníum ore, better known as the caramel crystals due to its visuals.

Life & Expiration

The metal may very well be one of the most stable compounds to exist as it holds for a couple centuries before even starting to loose quality. It doesn’t even rust or corrode, but rather thrives underneath the surface. Perhaps the best part behind its sturdy structure is the fact Whymníum remains the single material to never lose the power fueling runic enchants.

History & Usage

History

Old legends of Dwarven origin often speak of how the material remains a relic of their races birth. Their creation required something more complex than just stone and water and thus the metal came to be their spines and the reason why they never back down from a fight.

Discovery

Nobody really knows how the metal was ever discovered and as far most societies know, its knowledge has been at the dwarves disposal since before the races of men and elves even existed.   If the stories are to be believed however, the god Whymnír didn’t only find the compound, but created it from his own essence.

Everyday use

The material has many uses in the everyday struggles. It’s heavily used in medicine to repair and rarely even replace lost limbs. It's also heavily sought after for armour and wear especially in colder climates, but also carries value in machineries and runic batteries to harness mystical energy.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Besides of its practical uses it is also seen as divine by dwarves and Whymníum statues of their patron god is the central object of their altars.   The dwarven halls can also be seen filled with statues of old kings, queens and various paragons carved into pillars made from the metal to hold up the stone roof.   For the Graguura, the exchange of biological body parts to mechanical ones remains a critical ritual of passage to adulthood. While the parts and procedure to the upgrades happen to be different from tribe to tribe, they all remain true to using Whymníum to perfect themselves.

Industrial Use

The material is rarely used in industry, yet new Westportian technology has managed to create fully functional machines that are able to walk, serve and protect. These constructs are starting to become more common among the rich and several new prototypes are being manufactured and tried out for various roles, all ranging from household tasks like cleaning to expendable yet terrifying war-constructs.

Refinement

To refine the ore, a lot of heat is required and therefore volcanic activity has often been used in the past as a means to melt the ore, albeit with a lot of imperfections. Lately however, great kilns have been used for better, faster and more abundant refinement on the metal.

Byproducts & Sideproducts

The oxide from the material is often used in skin products that do not only protect against the suns rays, but also grants people a most exotic caramel like tan.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Whymníum is generally traded among dwarven and human cities and larger villages. It can be found within most metallurgy shops and, even in contrast to its high demand and many uses, it remains a fairly cheap so that most people could afford a little necklace or ring forged from the material.

Storage

Even as rather cheap and in good amounts, the metal is by standard guarded with disciplined and trained elite warriors, and recently event servitor constructs that protect the massive vaults that protect the valuable bars. This is not for its value so much as the fact that it could easily be turned into weapons against its prime users.
