The great-aunt of Ashe Blackbriar and the reigning Regent of Haven. Meryllia is well-loved by the people of Haven for her leadership. Per Haven tradition, Meryllia inherited the Regent seat due to being the strongest mage in Haven; establishing her title and position via a trial by combat. She was set to give the position to her niece Ashe, who also achieved the title, but was refused and opted for Celeste Smithfield, who was second to Ashe.

Born and raised in Haven, Meryllia is one of the few in thee Blackbriar family that stayed in Haven, uncaring to what the wider world had to offer believing it is nothing but endless strife caused by foolishness. She would work toward on her skills and craft as a young adult, eventually earning her position by way of combat and being trained on the as the successor to Haven.

History

The two did not officially meet until Ashe's family moved to Haven at the advent of her middle school years. Initially, the relationship between the two was great. Ashe saw Meryllia as her aunt and mentor, often showing off some theory she would learn or how it could be applied to spell crafting. In turn, Meryllia adored Ashe often teaching Ashe special magics and teaching her Haven's history.
The relationship faltered at Ashe's graduation and her subsequent refusal to become a Maven, meaning she would not be able to take Meryllia's place. This lead to a heated argument between the two with Meryllia chastising Ashe for scoffing at an opportunity many in Haven would kill for and Ashe stating that she would rather figure out what she wants to do in her life before she sits in a chair to lead a nation of people. Since that night, the relationship has been rocky with the only one attempting to fix it is Ashe who gives up on it.
