Ichor Material in Arcane Realm | World Anvil

Ichor

Ichor is a special form of ectoplasm produced exclusively by divine spirits such as deities, angels or on occasion other beings that consume large amounts of amrita and soma. It appears as a golden fluid that dimly glows in the dark. Pure ichor is toxic to most non-spirit forms of life even in small doses. The exception is caustic ectoplasm where the reaction causes each other to evaporate each other.   It has been found that mixtures of ichor with other strains of ectoplasm or water negate the toxicity while still maintaining a large amount of its effects. This is the basic way how most kinds of holy water are prepared as its purification and sanctification effects can be safely applied to mortals. Holy water is also important for many rituals in many different religious orders and ceremonies and thus is a sacred commodity.

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

Ichor is the sustaining fluid for divinities and immortals, whose loss results in their weakening though not their actual deaths. Ichor also has an a degree of toxicity to mortal beings whether they be animals, fey, henge, humans, and small plants, though the poisoning is relatively slow.

Origin & Source

Ichor is produced mainly by divinities as the counterpart to the blood of most organic beings. It can also be found in select immortal entities, typically from those that are able to consume amrita, soma, or similar elixirs. For divinities, ichor is part of their method of manifesting a physical form and ultimately sustains it. For non-divine immortals, it definitely sustains their youth and immortality, their death can be caused by too much loss of ichor.

History & Usage

Cultural Significance and Usage

Ecclesiam is one of the first religions to begin the creation of holy water using diluted ichor in distilled water. This became significant because it was deemed to be even more sacred than holy water that was only sanctified by various priests.
