Vellus

The Navigator

Vellus was a Prince of the Elves of Tritigonia, one of the Elvish settlements in the far west following the War of Dragons & Elves.  When his father was assasinated he knew he did not have the support to fight the coup.  He did have extensive knowledge of the travel journals and charts of Astrolabe the great mariner.  
Vellus had long wanted to go in search of the Three Gates that Astrolabe had described in his works.  Gathering his trusted companions in 5 great Swan boats he left Tritigonia and sailed back across the Ocean.  Sailing back through the Gates of the West.  Finding the peninsula that Astrolabe had described he found the hills where the Three Gates lie.  He and his followers subjected the local tribe of Orcs and founded their City on those hills, and the called it the City of Vell.  These elves became known as The Vell.
Vellus was an energetic leader.  He and his people soon harnassed the power of the gates and this lead them on a slow but steady conquest of the lands around them.  Vellus was a mighty warrior, never shirking from personally leading their forces in battle.  He was also a great wizard, and with the power of the gates at his disposal he was able to work many great works of power that enabled the military success of Vell and its civic splendor.
