This war was a major conflict that brought about the end of the Age of the Fey.
The Conflict
Prelude
After defeating the Giants and Demons, the Devils, Dragons, & Elves all took different approaches to the peace. The Devils retreated into the planes to continue their attempt to dominate them and toy with their bitter enemies the Demons. The Dragons retreated to remote locations to sleep among their horded wealth. The Elves remained spread over the world and in Lordship over all the other creatures. They treated them with disdain and contempt, but they were able to dominate them and grew in power and strength. They actively harnassed the gates, and even built some of their own.
Eventually their leader determined that the wealth horded by the Dragons was too great to leave buried away. So he determined that he should get it for his own.
The intial plan was with 8 armies that each attacked the hold of a single Dragon to open the war. Initially the Elves had success. Dragons being singular beasts it took them time to even understand they were in danger, and even longer for them to organize a defense. Once they had the tide began to turn and soon the Elves were on the defensive.
In the end the Dragons banded together and destroyed much of the Elves great cities. This also destroyed much of the earth. It only ended when the Elves were able to devise a plan to build fast ships and put to see with spells covering their retreat. It is not known where they headed, but it is believed they went beyond the Gates of the West.
The Elves removed themselves from interaction with the creatures of the world surrounding the sea. The Dragons returned to their remote locations for the long sleep they so desired. The rest of the creatures were left with a world where most of what existed before the war was destroyed, but where for the first time since they awoke on the surface of Arcanalia that they were free from domination by one of the Great Races.
Historical Significance
From an old world dominated by the Great Races. And immediately out of world of Elven control and where most other creatures were little better than slaves the world experienced freedom. A world reduced to small pockets of creatures using implements of stone and gathering and hunting as they moved about in the region they lived in. Finally each was able to move forward and cultures would be created. Technology and Magic would again be discovered, and the creatuers would posess and flourish in the lands where they once labored for others. It was a new age, an Age of Rebirth.
