Culture

Flowering Majesty:
Following the names of the imperial lineage, the people of Aethevora are often named after flowers, and most positions of state are titled similarly. Flowers are used as holy charms and symbols all across the nation. A Lotus is the symbol of the Imperial Family and the Divine Daughter (often referred to as the Divine Lotus), her guardian sentinels are the Lotus Guard, the holiest of military positions within the nation. Often called the Flower Capital of the world, the city of Fritimperi is agreed upon by many to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, with blooming flowers and blossoms filling the fields around the city and lining the streets, houses, and statues within. Aethevorans use stamps as signatures, these are stylized versions of the same flowers they are named after, though many foreign countries do not recognize these signatures as legally binding and request the Aethevorans write their name out next to their stamp.

History

Civil War:

Following the cataclysmic falling of the 6th Branch, many people sustained injuries and there was immense destruction of property and infrastructure. Unfortunately, of those individuals were the previous Lotus Emperor Popas II and Empress Stephani in a collapsed estate within the capital city. The Empress perished under rubble but the Emperor survived with a grievous injury. Their two newborn children would miraculously survive, being raised by the Emperor and his liegemen for the next 16 years, before Emperor Popas II fell to his lingering injuries. The Imperial Princes, Prince Amerilis and Prince Edelvis are twins, and at 16 they were both strong and capable men, but only one could be the next Emperor. The twin princes sought Larkaspur, Divine Daughter to choose between the two of them, however the Divine Daughter, a young girl but 2 years older than the twins, was plagued by indecision and could not confidently say which heir she would choose. The Princes then roused themselves to competition, boasting their capabilities, before it devolved into an argument between them, and then a fight. Before long, the brothers swore battle against each other, calling to the Imperial Dukes for their favor and to wage a war of supremacy against the other. The Divine Daughter, already rushed from the scene by her Lotus Guard, still could not simply decide on one of the boys. No one could force Larkaspur to make a decision, for it would shatter the already fracturing nation to defy their holy tradition. Thus the nation created by a civil war finds itself yet again beset by it. For the past 7 years the country has been split in 2, with the dukes aligning themselves with a Prince, or falling to them. The only haven of this war is the Capital City of Fritimperi, under the regency of the Divine Daughter and her Lotus Guard it stands unmarred by the war, with both Princes tacitly agreeing the city in its holy majesty would be the prize, not the battlefield.

Divine Origins

The Aethevoran Empire is one steeped in the religious zeal of its founder. It’s founding Empress, Laurelias, was the 5th Branch Panas of Dryas when she experienced a holy vision that drove her to separate from the orthodox Sylvan Church and found the Church of the Divine Daughter. Laurelias’ vision was the Soul of a Divine Daughter being birthed by the Mother Tree and creating several Divine Objects attuned to her Soul before scattering them among the 5th Branch. After finding these items on her pilgrimage, she received another vision of the Divine Daughter’s soul flowing into that of a newborn rising out of a lotus, who crawled to the Divine Objects. Laurelias assembled the young girls of the nation and one by one brought them before an array of different objects, concealing the Divine Objects within the spread. The children chose the items they felt attached to, and when one chose only the Divine Objects, Laurelias knew she had found the incarnation of the Divine Daughter. The Divine Daughter was exalted to the holiest of positions, a temple dedicated to her raised in what would become the capital of the nation, the nation which was named after this First Divine Daughter, Aethevora. Laurelias’ son Cleomas, who grew up alongside young Aethevora, was chosen by the Divine Daughter to be wed to her. From this came the tradition that the Divine Daughter would choose one of the Aethevoran imperial princes to wed, and together they continue the imperial lineage.
