Arcanthal
The lone City-State on the 5th Branch, Arcanthal is the point of the most contention between Safal, Country, Redonia and Aethevora. Positioned at the junction between the three countries, it also holds a perfect strategic position along the Cerulean River at the base of the Bough's Spine. Most of its population lean towards one of the three contested countries, aligning themselves with their cultures. The combination of Safali magic, Aethevoran beauty, and Redonian artistry results in Arcanthal being the singular most popular city in the Branch, if not the world. But the prowess and size of a city makes for a similarly sized underbelly... Mercenaries, gangs, thieves and bandits run rampart through the undercrofts of the city, warred against by the city's authorities of course. The constant clash of culture causes many acts of aggression and resentment among the city's people. In the wake of the Aethevoran Civil War, tensions have risen, and the City Lord Trazkiok has begun to crack down with great force upon the dark side of his city.
Demography and Population
Arcanthal's demographic makeup is roughly 50% of those native to the city, and the remaining 50% is split between the countries of Safal, Redonia, and Aethevora. As one of the largest cities in the world, it's population has reached over 515,000 as of the latest census held following the fall of the 6th Branch.
Military
One should not be dismayed by the comparative size of the state, Arcanthal has long possessed the military might to defend itself. The fortifications present in the city, refined and improved after centuries of attempted incursions, have proven to be as much as much, if not even more, resilient compared to the capitals and bastion cities of other nations.
Agriculture & Industry
As a solitary city-state, Arcanthal lacks the land to allow for agricultural prospects and imports a large amount of food from its neighbors, with the exception of Safal who shares the same struggle. It is also due to this problem that the city holds a Circle of Druids, dedicated to the arcane growth of crops in a controlled environment.
Nestled in the small plain at the end of the Bough's Spine, the city also has easy access to mines within the mountain range. Several large and rich veins of valuable materials discovered at and since the founding of the city has been much of the contribution towards the city's immense wealth.
Trade & Transport
The city enjoys a great relationship with the Merchant State Parkhan despite the distance from their borders. Due to its conglomeration of its' neighbors' populace, Arcanthal also enjoys a large amount of trade from those nations, further bolstering its' already exhuberant wealth.
