House Eimor

Buck smiled when I asked him about House Eimor. While he's a wealth of knowledge on the Noble Houses of Keledon, for some reason he has a special affection for those based here, in Kingsland.   "Now, the seat o' House Eimor is over off the east coast o' Kingsland, on an island called Whitemare, although they hold some land ashore as well. Sure it be everyone knows that House Borudh, bein' a Great one, is the biggest naval force in the realm, but sure it also be that House Eimor ain't too far off, they even havin' a port on their island. I can't imagine it manages the level o' trade that the Windmeres do down in Kalabar, but sure 'tis they're doing well enough."

History

"House Eimor came t' rise in the reign o' Aelfeth II. Now, if ye remember yer history, he was the first king o' the House of Blathen, comin' to the throne after the Barrel Rebellion. Now, y'see, one of Aelfeth's advisors throughout the rebellion was a man named Bran Eimor, and ye kin see how he came into power. Durin' the rebellion some o' the deposed king's lads--that'd be Alfor first o' his name, by the way--they hid out on Whitemare Island off th' coast, and were a real thorn in the side o' the new king's efforts. So he sends Eimor off to clean 'em out, and rightly he does so."   "The new king bein' grateful makes the man into a Baron, givin' him Whitemare Island as his own. So the lad starts buildin' up what he's got, this island in th' sea."   "Now, down the road aways, in the reign o' King Haren, first o' that name, the Red Plague strikes the kingdom, and fierce it 'twas. The King knows the land's in trouble, and as time goes the sickness claims each o' his children, one by one. Eventually the plague, she dies off, because a son o' the House, Aran Eimor, he sails off and brings back men o' learning from the south o' Maraséri and saves many a life. Royal favor falls on 'im, and the king raises him t' a Count once he comes into his own."   "Then, durin' the Bright Years when the Summersong was the first Queen of the realm, House Eimor becomes real close to the throne, almost family, supportin' the royal endeavors and all. Brendan Eimor is the Count o' Whitemare Island then, and by the end of her reign, the Count is an Earl, and sure but one o' his sons, Sir Fion Eimor, the Knight o' the Rock, becomes th' husband of the next Queen, Bethan the Light, and now the Eimor have a little o' their blood in the dynasty."   "Now, because o' that, years later in the troubles we call The Shakin' o' the Roots, Gerren Eimor, he figgers he has a claim t' the throne, but he don't pursue it, helpin' instead Gendar II get t' the throne. Now, Gendar had the stronger claim, but he respected ol' Garren right enough, and rewarded 'im by raisin' the house right up, and makin' him Marquis o' Whitemare, along with expandin' his holdins. And they stay close t' the throne."

Today

"Now, when Balar's Rebellion broke out, House Eimor, they declared for Selðe Halad right there on the spot, and without a second thought. Between Eimor and Borudh, those two Houses be well-nigh unstoppable on the sea, and with both declarin' for Selðe, 'twas a hit in the face to Balar. Of course, Selðe comes to be Queen Heulyn II an' now ye got Mylle Eimor as the Marquis, and--between you n' I--right sure I am that House Eimor lends their services t' the Crown when the Queen wants to move things about without the Great Houses bein' aware."   "Ain't too many Houses out there able to rise and rise with never a stumble or a fall, but Gods know House Eimor done it well and true."
