The Silent Machine
20 11th 123 PD

It was another day in Steelgate, trying to learn the workings of magic. All in all the lessons were pretty dull, I never was one for deep study, but something was off that day. The teacher was clearly mechanical but there were no voices. It was part machine, part human though it didn't have a voice. It was more akin to something with a soul yet it had no flesh. I must not have been the most subtle about my curiosity because she gave me a knowing look. After that I knew I had to ask about it. So after the lecture was done I stuck around. I couldn't think of a better way to ask around the issue so I asked it directly, why didn't she have a voice like all other machinery?   Ofcourse she declared me mad, everyone would have done the same. But even as I demonstrated the magic that was bestowed upon me she wouldn't believe me and declared me a wizard. Afterwards, I gave another demonstration involving me stopping the workings of a clock and telling her that I never studied magic in my life. She then declared me a sorcerer and a repressed one at that. She seemed interested however, the theory that machines could be sentient seemed to intrigue her. Why else would she ask me to assist her in further researching my "theory"? Nonetheless I accepted the offer and became her assistant. She introduced herself as M43N4. Curiosity about the voices of machines is always present within me. Maybe if I stick with her, I'll get one step closer to finding out why I was chosen by the machines. Or maybe it leads to the discovery of forbidden knowledge and curses that only spell doom for my very existence. The prospect of both excites me to no end.
