Example Character: Ahkan, the Warrior
Anything can be a weapon. Anything.
Ahkan always knew there was more to life than the drudgery of day to day labor in the village she was born. She became a soldier to escape that life, then a mercenary to escape being a soldier, always searching for something more. Many years and many scars later, she has found purpose and pleasure both in the company of her friends.
Personality
Brash and flamboyant, Ahkan delights in being different. She knows the life and toil of the everyday man or woman and with everything she does, distances herself from it. She is fond of colorful clothes with extravagant accessories like feathers from the Feathered-Bat and sharp perfumes. She is always looking to be a splash of color and excitement in a hard, gloomy world. Almost aggressively optimistic, Ahkan is always able to find the bright side of every day and is undaunted by whatever opposition awaits. A sure way to annoy the warrior is to be negative or nitpicky, though she is as quick to forget as she is to anger. Life, she says, is too short to remember those not worth remembering.
Ahkan is a loyal friend and companion, though she doesn't spare them from her more brash moments. To her, violence is a solution that can be liberally applied to any problem. Her association with more restrained people hasn't exactly mellowed her out, but she trusts them and is willing to let them try their way first. If it doesn't work, no harm was done except for the beating about to occur.
Appearance
Ahkan is a tall woman with broad, strong shoulders and a muscular build. She is almost always smiling, which makes the three light scars across the left side of her face twist up. Those are not the only scars she bears. Her body is a canvas of old wounds and tattoos coil around each one, telling the tale of the battle that brought it. The largest one is a scar on her back that goes from shoulder almost to her hip, and it is encircled with the tattoo of a great, reptilian beast she only refers to "the one that got away". Only her facial scars are an exception to this, only because she doesn't want to ink her face. Her hair is midnight black and usually braided.
Her manner of dress is meant to draw attention. Her armor is made from the carapace of beasts from the Far Deep, stronger than steel and light as a feather. Unless the situation calls for stealth, she never wears grey, black or white but prefers sharp, complementary colors with red being her favorite. It is difficult to guess exactly how many weapons Ahkan might be wearing at any given time, but it is enough to kill many, many people.
Skills & Abilities
Ahkan has seen many battles and has killed with everything from swords to spears to bar stools. She is an expert with a wide range of melee weapons and a good hand with many ranged weapons as well. Despite her wild life, she is a well-disciplined and dangerous force once battle is joined. She is particularly skilled at rolling with blows, twisting and turning her body to let blows skid off her armor and leaving her in a position to counter-attack.
For more academic pursuits, she has to rely on her friends. She is athletic and skilled, but she is no scholar. By her own account, she is almost as dangerous in the kitchen as she is on the battlefield, and most of her companions have banned her from cooking.
Ahkan is good with people, not only having learned to negotiate contracts and deal with others during her day as a mercenary, but she is naturally charming with an infectious smile and quick, sharp wit. People just come to like Ahkan, and she has made many friends and contacts.
