Elemental Spider Silk
From the depth of the Dûngar caves, south to Sithaline City , lies the nesting ground of a rich and sentient spider colony whose intelligence rivals that of humanoids above ground. Their speciality lies in the creation of a special clothing material, unparalleled by the fabrics that the Aradeian population is able to produce. The elemental spiders weaving this delicate and extraordinary material are, similar to Dragonborn , dimension hoppers . They do not come from the planet that Aradeia is set on, but from a realm in the Great Beyond . Elemental spiders of their size are a foreign idea to most Aradeian folk. Small insects and small arachnids on the other hand are not, so biologists and diplomats from all over the continent reached out to them to identify their motif of staying on this planet. Some researchers were rather fearful as they approached them, but most of them were open for diplomatic conversations.
During their interviews, the researchers discovered that the spiders had found a portal that led them right into the heart of this realm. They left their homes behind and fled to the Dûngar caves, taking their kin with them. As soon as they had learned a few words from the Elven tongue, they formed an alliance with the Dûngar tribes. They soon proved to be valuable trade partners and hard workers, producing new silk nearly every day.
Elemental spiders appear rather friendly and polite. They speak broken Fairo and enjoy lively conversations with those who dare to visit them. The silk they create is made with their webglands. It's a sturdy, tightly knit fiber that is useful for both summer and winter clothing. It increases resistance against the elements and dangerous substances, including but not limited to fire, ice, the cold, electricity, rain, moisture and acid. It has also proven as a better light armour against piercing damage.
Due to their vicinity to Sithaline City and both Dûngar and Elethîen elves, the spiders have a close alliance with their families. Most elves, especially those with a magical or warrior background, wear spider silk robes. They are quite expensive, but usually turn out to be a good investment for their safety and style. Elven fashion designers love to use elemental spider silk in their designs, dressing nobility in these sturdy robes. They know that their clientele love to feel especially safe - and their designs are made in a way that shouts I'm rich.
Therellon Moriar, one of the rising stars of Sithaline fashion, lately introduced a new coat to his collection. It is covered in intricate floral patterns with life-like birds fluttering over it while the wearer walks. Its material is a combination of elemental spider silk and magic-infused plant fibers, taken from the remains of the elders lost in the first grounding. Having been a researcher of the cycle of life and death, he found how to locate and identify the remains of former fallen elves and learned how to befriend their spirits. With his expertise, he managed to gather their energy in his fabric and combine it with the otherwordly fabric the spiders provide.
Moriar's creations are extremely costly. Every piece is unique, every robe handmade. Elders of the elves predict that he will be there for long, influencing the designs for centuries to come.
