Sithaline City Settlement in Aradeia | World Anvil

Sithaline City

Beyond the peak of snow-covered mountains lies Sithaline City, the metropolis in which Lumaia, queen of the elves, resides. Her palace, known for its stained glass windows, lies at the highest point to the north. It can be seen immediately when entering Sithaline. Heavily guarded and secured by thick silver rock walls, this city is one of the safest places in Aradeia and known for its intricately detailed designs and architecture. Magic is the most common source of energy here, directly derived from nature surrounding it, but there's a minority in the east that specializes in mechanics, building devices similar to robotics that take on household chores and work in the caves nearby.

Demographics

The Sithalin people consist of several tribes of elves who differ quite significantly in tradition and looks. The largest tribes directly connected to Lumaia's lineage make up about 53 % of society, with the Ârdennîn tribe being the biggest of them all. The second part of society consists of the Cérredîn tribes that mostly inhabit the middle and lower levels of the city. They make up about 37 % of the demographic and can often be found in the service industry of the city. The last group is the Dûngar tribe that lives in the caves and mines surrounding the mountains of Sithaline. They are a quiet folk who are part of Sithaline society but not fully under Lumaia's reign. They believe in the wisdom of the Eldest, with Nûkami and Férren as their leaders.

Government

In the upper and middle layers of the city, Lumaia and her desk of advisors build the core of the government. Citizens of Sithaline are asked to regularly check in with Lumaia and her assistants, encouraging them to actively take part in decisions for Sithaline and beyond. Her staff is reelected every 15 years. About a century ago, the Elven Kingdom was under the reign of Lumaia and her husband Aetrocus, but latter was killed under mysterious circumstances. Since then, Lumaia reigns alone, but she hopes that her daughter Erînia will find a new king for her country once her time has come.

Infrastructure

Sithaline City has an intricate public transport system that enables the Elves to travel quickly from one end of the city to the other. It needs some getting used to, since you have to balance yourself when jumping onto the rail, but once you get the hang of it, you can get from the far South to the far North in less than ten minutes. Apart from the rails, people use small carriages for larger groups or even shoes similar to roller blades to get around. It's all about fast paced movement and taking up as little space as possible. Up in the mountain tops they installed mills and dynamo-like machines to gather energy for their devices.
The city uses silver rocks for sturdy streets connecting the houses with greenery filling in the gaps to keep air pollution at bay. Beneath the grounds are well thought out sewer systems for any waste being flushed from the houses. Some of the water is directly cleaned by magic, some of the waste used as dung for agricultural endeavors. In the far north, past the palace of the Queen, lies Sithaline Port, the most important point of trade and the only other entrance to Sithaline City. It is known for its amazing goods, especially fresh fish and fruit from other continents, Camorand in the west and the Wilderness and the Omni villages in the south.
