At the Serpent's Fang Settlement in Aradeia | World Anvil

At the Serpent's Fang

In the far east of Aradeia, where no other humanoids dare to settle down, is a small village known by few as the Serpent Fang. Its inhabitants have built their houses by the lakeside to the right of the mountain range of the dwarven kingdom, right next to the lake in which Thâlinthar, the giant serpent, lives. Thâlinthar is an extremely aggressive, yet quite intelligent beast that is very protective of its territory and is, therefore, unwilling to let anyone enter its sacred waters. This makes it impossible for travellers to leave Aradeia from the east. They are forced to travel to the other four edges of the continent, for example to the western ports near Camorand or Sithaline in the north.
The harsh environment near the lake and the necessity to compromise with Thâlinthar with every step they take to keep the peace, the villagers living near him have grown quite sarcastic and sinister, only accepting few outsiders at a time that they refer to as 'snacks'. Often, travellers, who dare to visit them, trade food and artifacts for Thâlinthar's scales. These can be used to forge sustainable plate armour and extra sharp weapons.

Demographics

The Serpent Fang is mostly inhabited by humans, half-dwarves and orcs, due to the harsh winds and snow, as well as the rather rough attitude among the villagers themselves. Most people are in their mid-adult phase with a few children and a handful of old people who love to share their old fisher's legends.

Industry & Trade

Most common goods sold at the Serpent's Fang are:
  • fish, especially fresh water fish
  • wood carvings and linen clothing
  • serpent scales and weaponry made out of said scales

Architecture

The few houses standing here are made with heavy stone, carried with makeshift carts from the mines nearby. According to the signatures hit into the stone, most of the houses were made by the same half-dwarf family, the Pêrgrums. They prayed to their ancestors for permission to take the stone and mend it to build their homes.

I liked how clearly you can tell it's a mountainous, lakeside village by the details you've written into the article. I definitely don't want to get on Thâlinthar's bad side.   And the nickname of 'snacks' for visitors is a nice touch, too XD

May your worldbuilding hammer always fall true! Also, check out the world of the Skydwellers for lots of aerial adventures.

Glad that the snack comment didn't go amiss ;) I want to write a story set in this village one day. I like the rough atmosphere and I think Thâlinthar makes a great villain. Thanks for reading!
