The Prayer of Somara

When the empire invading the Eastlands was being pushed back across the continent, most of the rebel armies and people lost hope as they eventually reached the shores of what is now called The Landing.
The waters of the strait were calm compared to the open ocean. But more importantly the lands surrounding The Landing were low rolling hills and plains. They made a gentle slope down to the waters of The Landing, vast stretches of low open beaches made it a great area for boats of any size and build to approach the shores. The calmer waters made for safer navigation.
When the combined forces of the salve revolt under unified under Somara, they were eventually able to drive the invaders back to the landing sight. But the extent of the invasion was not known, until the plans were made for the final drive to the waters of the straits. With supplies and soldiers finally beginning to to show their limits from near decades long war of rebellion. The combine forces of the Eastlands had to earn some definitive victories. And so plans were made to move and attack the empires seemingly infinite supply lines, provided by large ocean fairing ships.
Initial scouting and planning found large numbers of soldiers and ships as was expected when the initial plan when discussed. However, when the rebel soldiers moved to attack the coastal strongholds of the empire, no one was prepared for the sight that eventually befell them.
Stretching from the low lying sands of The Landing, to the horizon were ships and reinforcements of the empire. It was said that there were so many, no one could see the blue waters of straits between the wooden hulls, and deep green almost black sails of their massive ships. Endless lines of soldiers marching down ramps extending from the sides of enormous 5 masted ships anchored so close to shore.
The freed slave armies needing to stem the tide of soldiers engaged the empire on the gentle shores of The Landing, but could not cope with the vast numbers that the empire could muster.
So, Somara, watching all hope be drained from her collective people, dropped to her knees praying to any gods that would listen for redemption and hope for her people. While armies clashed below at the edges of land and water, Somara prayed, motionless. Then a bright light fell form the sky. Many claim the ethereal light appeared in the shape of majestic dragon, larger than has ever been seen before so since; stopped above Somara, her head bent down. Then when looked up, she smiled, and wept with tears of endless joy and hope.
Some say she conversed with dragon of light, others said she spoke only a single word. From Somara, burst a brilliant light, then as the dragon of light began to fade, powerful beautiful bolts of lightning shot into the sky. The sand where she knelt was turned to glass and she was nowhere to be found. But then storm clouds began to gather over the waters of the straits, as the armies continued to clash. The seas of quickly turned into powerful walls, battering the largest ships mortals had ever built. Crashing into each other, bring all on board down into the waters below. Killing their own passengers with their great numbers, as there was no way to reach the surface should one have escaped the tangle of massive, hulls, sails, masts, and splintered wood. Even ships that had been close enough to the gentle shores to disgorge their endless cargo of invaders, felt the wrath of the suddenly turbulent seas.
Since the founding of capital Amisra and the Queendom of Aranthelle the royal family has traced its lineage back to Somara and her children. The queens of Aranthellle have had personal guard comprised of entirely of Dragonborn, in reverence to Somara and the Dragon of Lights' sacrifice at @[The Landing].
