Shoggothid
Very little is documented about any creature matching this description, but, the information gathered is below.
A species of normally-amorphous omnipurpose biological automata, created by unknown civilization aeons ago, it appears something in them caught the eye of Resettlers, who've relocated a bunch of those DNA engines to the planet, colloquially know as New Kadath, while giving them a way of self-replication to see, if they'd be able to create a viable biosphere, and locating a Cache of Resettler technology on the nearby moon. While, a long time and several flybys by other species after (one of which appears to have given an extremely strange, but mostly self-contained civilization of deep-thinking and surprisingly peaceful near-immortals a reason to turn their eyes skyward), Shoggothids have managed to stumble their way into creating tools capable of doing things their biological body couldn't and working their way through it (similarity with Carnisians is noted by HK), their visit to the Cache was interrupted by the arrival of IDS *Elysium* (named after the actual name of what's usually called Thawworld), operated by general Kumštis, who set her eyes on removing and/or destroying the Cache for reasons currently only known to her. While she was, fortunately or unfortunately, successful in this regard, it seems at least one Whiteship from this Cache was activated by someone else and jumped away into wider galaxy. We can only speculate as to what will it bring...
SHOGGOTH-AUTOMATA A species of normally-amorphous omnipurpose biological automata, created by unknown civilization aeons ago, it appears Resettlers didn't take all of them, for they were found even outside of New Kadath. However, whereas New Kadath Shoggothids had eachother to socialize and reproduce with (and there may or may not have been some tinkering from Resettlers involved), Shoggoths outside of New Kadath tend to be as their unknown creators have left them. Usually, that means "rampant and with pretty noticeable disdain to other life, apparently due to how their creators treated them". Some of the more advanced strains have higher control than usual lines over their shapeshifting, being able to change their shape fully and even move excessive biomass into dimensional pockets (New Kadath strain has this ability, but usually reserves usage of it for cases when one agrees to become astrogator and shapeshifts to fit into ship's control chair). However, amongst them, there are two strains most worrying. First is a strain of highly-advanced shoggoths with full free will and self-determination, that've been detected infiltrating UGF for reasons unknown. When confronted, they've leveraged all of the usual shoggoth capabilities to neutralize the threat, before shapeshifting into a new shape and trying to get lost in the nearest crowd. And the second is a strain with much the same capabilities, but also unquestionable loyalty to whoever gives them command in the language of their creators, usually preceded by the word "Tekeli-li!" - apparently, an equivalent to "execute new order". There have been some cases, when pirate lords, who've managed to find shoggoths from the second strain, avoid going insane and learn enough of the creator language to command them, got themselves an immensely powerful assault and worker unit, as the versatility of non-rampant shoggoths is hard to match.
