Jump Gates
Alternatively called "jumpgates". Though their appearance varies wildly, these "Gates" are most often in the form of a ring, surrounding a vacuous aperture. The aperture itself consists of a few layers, mostly sheathing films, filled with an energy medium sandwiched between.
Without the sheaths, it is believed that the energy medium would cascade exponentially, devastating anything within 1AU of the ring. Any ship attempting to enter the ring without the proper shielding in place will likely crumple, and/or detonate, as the energies within the sheath overload the ship's various systems.
Read further about the shielding on the Shalan Drift page.
Most jumpgate rings are rated for "Medium" vessels of UGF classification, and smaller. Large vessels typically possess their own Drift Engine. There exists a similar ring that looks like it could fit Colossal, and even some Supercolossal, vessels, though as this is the Palaxis Proxima Anomaly, no one knows if it even is a jumpgate ring at all.
Peering into the aperture of jumpgates reveals a pitch-dark space beyond.
As the jumpgates are networked devices upon the GalactaNet, it's perhaps no surprise that they have a footprint within the datascapes that the Infomorphs traverse. The digital replica, being represented by massive, stone circles adrift in the empty void, has an aperture filled with flitting, and flickering pixels.
