Republic of Invercia

The Republic of Invercia is a state located in the southwest of Aquevaia, bordering Pu'he, Dola, and Vesien.

Structure

The Republic of Invercia is a representative democracy. Each province elects three to five representatives to the Peoples' Council which decides the laws and controls domestic and foreign policy. The Council has thirty seated members.   Every six years, every registered citizen of Invercia is allowed to vote in the election to decide the First Representative . The First Representative serves as head of state and commander of the military, though the Peoples' Council can curtail their power in times of need.

Culture

Invercians are known mainly for three qualities: their fierce dedication to personal freedom, individualism, and their superstitious nature.

Military

The main army is commanded by the First Representative . A special division called the Viridian Guard acts as a border guard to deter raiders from Pu'he and as a warning to Vesien about their military buildup.

Foreign Relations

The Republic and Pu'he have a long, bloody history, resulting in tensions over territorial claims in the northern provinces of the Republic. The last great conflict was the War of False Chiefs, a three year war that resulted in Pu'he losing a significant portion of their lands south of Msipu. Currently, there are frequent minor clashes between Pu'he horse raiders and the border guards of Invercia.   Relations with the Kingdom of Vesien are somewhat better, though in recent years, Invercia has grown wary of Vesien's talk of territorial expansion and subsequent military fortification along the border.   The Republic and the Dolan Theocracy are cordial, as the two are trade partners.

Agriculture & Industry

Invercia has a very balanced economy, diversifying its production in metals, agriculture, and fishing. The country is most known for its mining of sunstone, an important magical regent and currency.

Trade & Transport

The transportation between towns is mainly by land, over the well-kept and maintained system of roads that runs though almost every settlement. The towns on the river also have small riverboats that ply the waters down to the trading outposts on the coast. Coroa is the primary trading center with Dola on the Coppergrass Sea; Lieudor on the banks of Manywater Lake with Pu'he and Vesien; and Grinslan connects with the overland trade route to Dola and Vesien.
