Dolan Theocracy

The Dolan Theocracy is a kingdom in the southeast of Aquevaia. It is bordered by Jaya to the east and the Republic of Inveria to the west.

Structure

Dola is a theocracy ruled by the three major monastic orders of Aquevaia, the Red Order, the Order of Tears and the Order of the Flaring Sun. The Red Order, as the most militaristic of the three, holds the greatest influence over the country and is therefore acknowledged as the "ruler" of Dola, with the head of that Order, the Ard Righ serving as the head of state. The other two Orders, while technically holding the same position, defer to the Red Order in matters of foreign policy and military affairs and act as advisers to the Ard Righ.   The judicial system is administered through the monastic orders. Locally, the monks resolve disputes according to their own wisdom, monastic rules, and local traditions. If a matter is deemed serious enough, it can be appealed to a higher-ranked monk living at the three monasteries. For matters of utmost importance, the leaders of the Three Orders hold their own trial and decide the ruling. The trial by the Three Orders is final and cannot be appealed.

Public Agenda

The Dolan Theocracy hold religion to be paramount in all affairs, and therefore Dola as a country is dedicated to the eradication of all religious orders that do not follow the words of Mea'hana. Worshipers of deities and minor deities are tolerated, though they are not allowed to proselytize within the borders of the kingdom. This includes the Cult of the Soulspeakers and the druidic circles. Warlocks, if found, are hunted and either driven from Dola or killed as heretics.

Demography and Population

The people of Dola are fairly homogeneous. The main races are humans and firbolgs. Small communities of elves live in the southwest near the Coppergrass Sea, and some kobolds live in the center of the country near the mountains, as well as along the border with the Kingdom of Vesien in the north.

Agriculture & Industry

Dola is primarily and agricultural land, relying on intensive farming to support its population and trades the surplus with other countries for luxury items. A small-scale mining operation has headquarters in Beinn and produces quantities of iron, sunstone, and copper.

Trade & Transport

Dola maintains a moderate trading income. The people along the coast welcome foreign traders though they themselves are often content serving as middlemen and rarely leave the country.   The primary towns are connected by a network of cobble highways. The roads are often in poor condition and cause great frustration to traders attempting to get their goods inland. The one good road is from Cathair Neimh to the town of Timcheall. Rather than land transport, it is more common for towns and villages to ship their products along the rivers.   Dolan currency is the talent, with copper being the least, followed by bronze, gold, and sunstone. One bronze talent is equal to 100 copper talents. One gold talent is equal to 100 bronze talents or 1,000 copper talents. One sunstone talent is equal to 100 gold talents, 1,000 bronze talents, or 10,000 copper talents.
