This is a collective event, a whole family or even tribe contributes to the ritual. • This is a dish that combines lizard meat, and a variety of fruits, nuts, greens, and grubs. The first thing to prepare is the lizard. It needs to be cleaned, but the skin is left on.
  • A fire is prepared, and part is burnt down to coals.
  • Yams are covered in clay and tossed on the coals.
  • Other ingredients are either chopped up or left whole and stuffed in the abdominal cavity of the lizard, it is tied shut and covered in clay then placed on the coals and covered with them too. The fire replenished the coals as needed. Cooking takes multiple hours, it is often turned so it is cooked on all sides.
Various other animals can be cooked the same way such as birds, kangaroo, crocodiles, etc. There are many fruits, nuts, and vegetables that can be substituted, depending on the flavor profile wanted.
