Iron is found in limited supply on Aquatica, as she is poor in many hard metals. The softer metals are easier to find closer to the surface. The harder ones are found deeper and usually in dangerous places, like near volcanoes, on Teranik , or deep in the ocean.

Iron ore is found in many different forms. From hematite, limonite, siderite, taconite, iron pyrite, and magnetite, the easiest to find is hematite. None of these is pure iron, they are a combination of minerals that iron can be extracted from. Steel is the primary use of iron ore, but since it is so hard to find and in such limited quality other ores need to be used as alloys that are strengthened by alchemy, magic, or magitech.

Extracting iron from ore takes a long in-depth process while working with other ores are much easier. Most think it takes too long for what is produced.

It is sacred to the Fire Dwarf, and often the Earth Dwarf, but many others disdaine if for the softer metals.

Since it is in such short supply, it is often added to other alloys to strengthen them.

The most common byproduct is slag, lower-grade ore, impurities, and carbon. Others include ammonia, phenol, and toluene.
Hazards
Mining iron ore causes air pollution through nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide from diesel generators, trucks, and other equipment. Runoff water gets polluted with heavy metals and acid. The miners often get various respiratory diseases as wll.
Environmental Impact
The land surrounding the mine usually gets polluted as well, mainly from the water rain off.
