Communication Tower

The Lighthouse is a landmark building that is both where various types of communication are built, and tested. A school where people are trained on how to use them. Also, a place where orders are given that are sent and where to send them.

Purpose / Function

This structure was built to facilitate communications throughout the realm in any way needed. There are even more space to built new types of communication in the future.

Architecture

The building looks like a stacked pagoda-tiered stone tower. Each tier has a different function, and type of communication. The top is still slated for a signal fire but has been updated to include mirrors to make it stronger and able to reach longer distances. The building is a uniform black basalt, except where reflective surfaces are needed.

Defenses

It is also built to withstand a siege, for as long as needed, there's only one opening on the surface, but many from below. Even these openings can be blocked. The central core is a spiral staircase with a landing on each floor, the levels are segregated for different uses, and these doors can also be sealed off.

History

Originally, it was a fire signal tower, similar to a lighthouse. Then it progressed to a heliograph, next to a signal lamp which now houses many types of signal equipment. The communication guild is housed here. They oversee the school and "think tank" that dreams up new types of devices to pass messages. There is also a council of people called the Comptrollers, that decide how and where messages are sent. If the messages are short or the distance is, they might be sent by runners or messenger birds.

Tourism

The Lighthouse's secrets are too sensitive to allow tourists to find out its secrets. Only those in the guild and other that work there have been in the tower, and they only know the level they work on.
