Tome of Crawling Depths

The Tome of Crawling Depths is a mystical spellbook, often associated with the Travesties, Retch and Cthothlast. It is said to be a powerful spellbook, and can allow the reader to make contact with Retch from beyond the mortal coil.
The original book is said to be a damp, barnacle-encrusted book that smells of the sea and drips briny water.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The book grants the reader control over many water-based creatures using spells. However, it causes the reader's mind to break slowly, dealing more damage to the reader's psyche the more powerful the creature summoned.
It is also said that bearing the book allows the reader to commune with Retch, although this has not been confirmed. In addition, the reader is said to develop an unquenchable thirst upon touching the book.

History

Dictated to Cthothlast by Retch, the Tome of Crawling Depths functions as the Great Maker and Breaker's manifesto. While many copies of the book have been made, and distributed to Retch's cults throughout Apa Axas, the original is kept within The Endless Archive by Cthothlast as a keepsake of the pair's friendship. It is said that Cthothlast will return the Tome to Retch upon his resurrection.
