Tieflings

Tieflings are a Fiend-Touched species found on Apa Axas. Apa Axas is full of downtrodden, and overlooked peoples, but perhaps none are more tragic than the Tieflings. Scarred into a terrifying form by birth, a fiend’s touch or some other curse, Tieflings are seen as no better than a common Devil or Demon to most commoners, and are often shunned in, if not outright driven from most communities, for fears that they may try to extract the souls of other races. This could not be further from the truth. Although some Tieflings may try to tap into their latent fiendish side, whether as a vie for power or as retaliation for their wickedness bestowed upon them, most are simply normal individuals attempting to live their lives as safety as possible. Most Tieflings even hate fiends more than the average person, having been personally affected by their deviousness.

Civilization and Culture

History

The first Tieflings appeared on Apa Axas soon after Shubb'Ki was first sealed away after his The War on Death against Surm Tutdrug. Using what little psychic energy he could muster, the ScarKing formed a small cult, known as The Children of Tief. His aim was to inhabit the body of a child of one of his supplicants, who would be presented to him as a sacrifice. However, the teenager presented to him, known as Morgthos, had been blessed by Surm Tutdrug, and was able to resist the mind-annihilating power of the Crawling Rot, but she had been irrevocably disfigured by the process; growing demonic horns, a devilish tail and dark red skin. The blessing in return completely severed Shubb’Ki’s mind from Apa Axas and bathed the cult in hellfire, transforming everyone present into beings similar to Morgthos. The mind control now lifted, the cultists realised what they had done, and attempted suicide, but were stopped by Morgthos, who claimed it was their duty to own their mistakes and move forward to make the world a better place.   Morgthos was marked as a Chosen One, and, taking back the name Shubb’Ki had bestowed on them, they became the first Tieflings on Apa Axas. However, these were not the first Tieflings of any realm, and Morgthos, with the blessing of Surm Tutdrug, became the first Eldritch Knight Fighter, and raided The Nine Hells and The Abyss as best she could, as well as the realms of Zemer Epsh, Shubb’Ki, Kal Crist, Thija and Sangroke Bliss, liberating thousands of Tieflings and bringing them to The Soulforge, where their Archfiend masters could not reach them.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

While most Tieflings are normal people, content to live their lives in peace, their origins and fiendish appearances often evoke feelings of ire in other mortal races. The Tieflings are seen as ticking time bombs, due to the propensity of early appearances of Tieflings leading to fiendish incursions, and are exiled to their own small islands. The most famous of these is just off the coast of The Putric Isles, known as New Morgthos after the Tiefling’s greatest hero.   Despite their treatment by others, Tieflings are one of the most open races to other species, willingly allowing any race into their settlements, as long as they have not been proven to be hostile. However, some Tiefling tribes have grown bitter with resentment and are antagonistic towards other races. This shows the sheer diversity of Tiefling tribes, as many are eager to define their own united society, and traditions. However, they are so distant from each other and communication is often limited, leading Tiefling tradition to vary from region to region.
