The Shadowless City

Amidst the eternal sands and devastating heat of Oristhane's central lands lies an oasis of cool air and lush greenery. This oasis is the sprawling garden that surrounds the Shadowless City, a massive palace complex that serves as both the seat of the government of Oristhane and the heart of the Cult of Istha. Named for the gentle golden light that seems to permeate every inch of it, the Shadowless City is a beautiful, blessed place.
Primarily, the Shadowless City functions as a home for Oristhane's reigning High Priestess. It also houses a suite of halls for her to meet with her Knight-Priestesses , other priestesses, or disciples of the faith who are lucky enough to receive an audience with her. Visiting diplomats from other nations also spend time at the Shadowless City.
A fleet of priestesses, augurs, and disciples live permanently at the Shadowless City as part of the High Priestess' flank of attendants and advisors, but a rotating cast of temporary residents is a constant fact of the City's existence. Pilgrims flock to the Shadowless City to pay respects to it as a holy site blessed by the light of the goddess. The Blue Cathedral, an enormous temple regarded as the jewel of the Shadowless City, attracts the most visitors, not the least in part because of a widespread belief that to stand within the turquoise light filtering in through its stained-glass walls will cure any ailment. Stories of miracles performed by the Blue Cathedral and its priestesses have built up a mythos around the place known to all within the faith. Even a handful of Knight-Priestesses attest to the healing power of the Blue Cathedral.
Though many visit the Shadowless City every day, it is still an incredibly secure site. Maintaining the safety of the Shadowless City is a matter of highest importance; after all, it is a symbolic heart of the nation and its faith, and its primary resident is hand-selected by the goddess herself. The High Priestess' Champions , an elite coterie of soldiers, accompany her throughout the Shadowless City, while other highly-trusted and -trained guards keep order within the rest of the city.
