Primordial

The oldest language of Aotra, Primordial is the tongue of the primordial beasts that formed the world, and it is a language lost to time for millennia. At the present time, very little is known about the Primordial language. The people most familiar with it now are the handful of sages who have dedicated their lives to tracking down and studying the few, ancient fragments of Primordial writing; even these experts can't claim to have anywhere near a comprehensive understanding of the language.

History

Primordial dates back to Aotra's earliest days: the earliest known written history is recorded in Primordial. Many of the longest-used arcane incantations often include Primordial-like text, a fact which has led sages across Aotra to believe that Primordial was a language of power even in the earliest days of humanity.   The decline of the Primordial language is a mystery. It is widely assumed that the Common tongue evolved from Primordial because of the linguistic similarities between the two, but there is little evidence of any transitional stages of that evolution. Because the decline of the Primordial language happened so early in Aotran recorded history, it is extremely difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions about its cause.

Linguistics

The Primordial language is remarkably similar to the Common tongue. Its grammatical structure is the same, and it shares many of the same phonemes. A notable difference between the two is that unlike Common, Primordial seems to have a complex tonal system represented by diacritics.
