Cethandir (seth-AN-dir)

Cethandir is one of the four metropolises of the Federation of Vay. Cethandir has historically been ruled by a council of four, known as the Tetrarchs, a group that includes two elder politicians and two juniors who will eventually succeed their elders. Though the vast majority of the metropolis' population is concentrated in its urban center, it also has administrative control over the vast swath of land that constitutes the southern territory of the Federation of Vay. Of all the Vayan megacities, Cethandir controls the largest area of land.

Economy

Historically, Cethandir's economy has always been centered on manufacturing; a lot of its lands are not particularly resource-rich—at least, they are not particularly rich in the resources valued by the Federation—so Cethandir has made a place for itself as a hub of industry. In particular, a lot of the arcane technology produced by the Federation is built in Cethandir, so it's considered something of a hub for innovation in artifice. Needless to say, Cethandir's economy was dramatically impacted by the Severing.

Demographics

Demographics: Pre-Severing, Cethandir had a population of 6 million, and the best post-Severing estimates place the current population at about 1.8 million. Due to lack of available information about contemporary demographics, all other demographic information refers to pre-Severing Cethandir.   The ethnic makeup of Cethandir is similar to that of the Federation at large, but with a stronger lean towards Elvish heritage. About a third to 40% of the population has at least half Elvish ancestry, and the majority of those with Elvish ancestry are ethnically Zaimaris, though there is a notable minority of Axatla dark elves and a handful of Elasi dark elves (mostly refugees from Sarland). Under 5% have any significant amount of Orcish heritage. Most of the humans are Aundirian Dimira, an offshoot cultural group with mixed Dimira and Aundirian (a group descended from the Ceth Tseket who were the original inhabitants of the city-state, Ceth Aundir, that would eventually grow into the metropolis now known as Cethandir) heritage. There are also a strong minority of Pelissier humans, particularly outside of the urban center. Cethandir is home to a large portion of the Zaílanor community, a population of people with several generations of mixed Zaimaris-Dimira heritage that consider themselves to be a unique ethnic group in their own right.   The population of Cethandir is not particularly religious, even by Vayan standards. While Dichotomism is, technically, a plurality religion, with just over 35% considering themselves Dichotomists (compared to a 60% global average, and 50% in the Federation specifically), fewer than 15% of Cethandirans participate in any sort of Dichotomist-faith-based activities on a regular basis.
