King Damakos Renardin
King Damakos Renardin is a valiant warrior, cunning diplomat and respected leader, not unlike his mother, Empress Eristea Renardin. He is the founder of Sanctuary, a haven for the outcasted ancestries of Sheanora, and viewed as a major power-player of the region, despite his youth.
Though Damakos refers to himself as a tiefling, and is accepted as such, he is in fact a true-fiend, born with devilish features because of the Renardin family's deep ties with fiendish worship. Though his mother rejected that heritage, defeating her father in the Infernal Wars, Damakos' appearance was the final touch of Baeliel on her family's bloodline. His father is long dead, lost to the wars, but Eristea always reinforced that her son came from heroic stock.
Born on the day the Baskan Accords were signed, Damakos nevertheless lived a life of constant danger in his early years, as Eristea's rivals sought to end her rule before it could begin. Tragically, he was used as a political tool, described as proof that Eristea was still in league with the fiends who had enraptured her father. Though this was not true, Damakos needed to be prepared to defend himself - and was taught the sword as early as five years old. By the time he was sixteen, he was already one of the best swordsmen in Mephistia.
He joined the military, rising in the ranks to become a leader in the ranks of special forces, spending his late teens and early twenties helping to win the Mephistian Civil War, rooting out his grandfathers' followers, destroying what was left of the fiendish influence on the nobility. He accomplished this by doing the unthinkable, negotiating with the orc and goblin tribes that had gone largely ignored within Mephistian borders, offering them citizenship and fair treatment in exchange for their loyalty. It worked. He gained a reputation as a man who could honor his promises and be trusted in battle. These alliances only grew as he was posted to protect the Mephistian border with the Battlehaunt. The name Damakos became especially legendary among the tieflings across Sheanora, as he became a role model and hero.
With peace finally reigning over Mephistia, Damakos requested a leave from his military service. He requested only one thing as payment, to use the island off the coast of the country as a haven for people like him, the lost and the outcasted. Orcs, goblins, tieflings, minotaur - all would be welcome in the kingdom he would come to call Sanctuary.
As he moved to the island, opening it to his many allies, dignitaries from other nations arrived to show their support. Aracia sent Lucinda Salemanco, the kindest, most academic of the siblings. What was meant to be a week long meeting turned into a months' long affair, with Lucinda pledging her assistance to build the fledgling nation. They fell in love and were married within the year, Lucinda becoming his queen.
While Sanctuary remains a small, fairly isolated nation, Damakos is one of the most respected rulers in all of the Merchant Sea region. His diplomatic acumen has allowed him to navigate the tricky needs of the disparate tribes, clans and families that make up his population. Life in Sanctuary is difficult, but as long as Damakos is king, his people know it will be fair.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Damakos is a true-fiend, though accepted as a tiefling. He has deep purple skin, black ram-like horns and piercing yellow eyes that glow even in the darkness. His teeth are naturally sharp, but he files them down to appear less intimidating. He has no tail or cloven hooves. His thick, curly black hair comes from his mother's side of the family and he wears it proudly.
Apparel & Accessories
Damakos wears the blue and purple flower crown that marks him as the King of Sanctuary. His black armor stays in the closet, as he hopes to have finally found peace, instead preferring the simple red and gold cloth tunic that has become his uniform.
