Drake, Briar Stalker

There is nothing more dangerous in the 'Elder Forest' than silence, for silence means that a Briar Stalker is near. The forest floor is their domain, and the Wood Elves rightfully fear them. Many a 'Elven Ground Scouts' have gone down to the forest floor only to find themselves being quickly carried off in the jaws of a Briar Stalker, never to be seen again. The use of Briar Stalkers are also a popular way to making an example of criminals in some villages. A criminal will be tied up to some kind of wooden rack, lowered down to the forest floor, and left for the Briar Stalkers. Typically the criminal's screams will wake the village later that night when the Briar Stalkers begin to tear them apart, unable to separate them from the rack in one piece.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Briar Stalker is a sleek but muscular species of drake.

Genetics and Reproduction

To attract a mate, males travel to special leks, where they produce large bellows that can be heard throughout the forest. When interested females show up the males start dancing in an attempt to impress them.   The females will eventually lay 3-6 eggs.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Carnivores, the Briar Stalkers are mainly ambush predators. They wait along game trails for prey to walk near before pouncing on them. If need be they can chase prey for short distances, and can scale dozens of feet up the massive trees. They are opportunistic hunters, and will never pass up a potential meal.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Their dark environment has given them excellent senses of smell, hearing and sight.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
