Wood Elf

The most common of the Elven folk, the Wood Elves live high in the trees of the 'Elder Forest' and rarely descend to the ground. Many Elves have a phobia of going down to the forest floors, due to never leaving the trees and the dangers that lurk below. Due to their arboreal lifestyle and dependence on the trees, they tend to be excellent tree climbers and knowledgeable on the local wildlife and flora,

Basic Information

Anatomy

Wood Elves have a standard Elven body plan however they tend to be shorter and have a darker complexion than their Half Elf cousins.

Ecology and Habitats

The majority of Wood Elves live high off the ground in massive trees with most, if not all of their settlements being embedded in the trees themselves and interconnected via platforms and bridges. Because of their arboreal lifestyle very little stone can be found in their structures. Instead wood, glass, and other plant materials are used in construction. Most Wood ELf settlements are built above or near a river for easy access to water and sand.

Dietary Needs and Habits

It is extremely rare for Wood Elves to eat non-plant based food items. They are experts at making tree-based syrup.

Additional Information

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

'Giant Elven Trees' Wood Elves can spend their entire lives up in the trees without ever touching the ground once. A single tree can house multiple dwellings, as well as providing food, sap, shade, etc. As a result they are highly protective of their trees, and will do whatever it takes to protect them from loggers and excessive amounts of parasites. The trees that Wood Elves tend to use can live for a very long time. If a tree that an Elf lives in starts to die and they are unable to save it, they will move to a new tree and salvage the dying one for materials. When the magic levels returned to usable levels they were quick to find ways to use it to help grow the trees in specific ways.
