'Cat-Folk'

One of the most common folk on the 'Beast Continent', 'Cat-folk' are a very naturally curious folk, and this curiosity has driven them to explore far and wide. As a result they where the first folk of the 'Beast Continent' to reach Tamerea.

Basic Information

Anatomy

This folk bares a close resemblance to their four-legged cousins. Of medium height, their sleek, but muscular bodies are covered in soft, fine fur. Their tails tend to be long and sleek, and their fingers end with small but sharp retractable claws.

Biological Traits

Physical Traits 'Cat-folk' are highly agile and lithe, with excellent reflexes and being good sprinters. They can also quickly scale trees and other high places.

Genetics and Reproduction

'Cat-Folk' rarely have just one kitten per birth, typically they will have 2-3 kittens.

Ecology and Habitats

While they can be found i most habitats, the majority of 'cat-folk' live in temperate-warm forests, plains, and urban areas.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Much of a 'cat-folk's' diet includes meat and fish. as a result they have become excellent hunters and trackers.   Curiously, they are unable to taste anything sweet, instead preferring rich, meaty flavors.

Social Structure

While not as social as 'Wolf-Folk', the 'cat-folk' can be quite loyal to their families, also known as prides, and very close friends. Often several prides will live together in a single village and elected representatives from each pride will form a council.   'Cat-Folk' highly respect magic users, and they are often hold positions of political power.

Facial characteristics

'Cat-folk' have very cat-like faces, with pointed ears and whiskers on their upper lip and eyebrows. Their eyes have slit pupils, and come in a variety of colors. Most have some shade of green, gold, or orange, through shades of blue, pink, and lilac are not unheard of.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Overall 'Cat-folk' tend to have excellent senses. Their low-light vision is perfect for seeing at night, and their sense of smell and hearing is better than any 'A.O.D'. Their sense of balance is also excellent, and they are infamous for their ability to land o their feet.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

  • Female Names: Alyara, Duline, Hoya, Lilyana, Milah, Miniri, Siphelele, Tiyeri.
  • Male Names: Carruth, Drewan, Ferus, Gerran, Nyktan, Rouquar, Zithembe.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Mainly speak their own language. Those who travel to Tamerea also learn The Merchant's Tongue.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Community While 'cat-folk' can live from communities ranging from small hunter-gatherer tribes to large cities, almost all have a strong sense of cooperation and community. They are social and love receiving attention from other individuals.   However just because community is important to 'Cat-folk' does not mean that self expression and personal growth isn't.   Crime and Punishment Individuals that have been found to have committed serious crimes are often punished by being declawed. This involves having one's finger cut off at the first digit, a very painful process.   Defensive While 'cat-folk' do have a variety of weapons at their disposal, in a pinch their sharp claws make excellent defensive weapons.   Education They tend to foster and encourage curiosity.   Magic Have a rich tradition with magic.

History

'Cat-Folk' are the first folk from the 'Beast Continent' to leave their homeland and make their way to a new continent. However their first expedition was disastrous. The ocean between the 'Beast Continent' and Tamerea was filled with strong currents, whirlpools, storms, and massive hungry monsters. Only one of their ships managed to make it to Tamerea. The ship was disabled and drifted into the harbor of 'Port City A'. When officials boarded the ship they found many of the 'Cat-Folk' onboard were dehydrated and starving.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Typically gets along with other folk.   Elves Share the Elves love of stories, dance, music, and nature.   Goblins View Goblins vermin.   Gnolls Constantly warring with Gnolls, especially since they often kidnap their kittens for use as slaves.   Half Orcs Find Half Orcs intriguing.   Halflings Get along with Halflings.   Humans Get along with Humans.   Orcs Not sure of Orcs might makes right society.   'Rat-Folk' View 'Rat Folk' vermin.   'Small-Lizard Folk' Tolerate 'Small Lizard Folk' if they respect boundaries.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Fur color and patterning is highly variable.
