The North

The Largest, and Harshest of the Central Kingdoms, the North consists of few large cities and a small population. However the people are tough after longer winters and emptier plates. They have never gotten on with the southerners, since the North and South had separate beginnings. Sitting in the south-west of the Kingdom is Winter's Edge, the capital of the north and the most fortified city on the continent.   In history the North have had conflict with races like the Centaurs. But generally kept to themselves and developed a strong sense of community across the North. The North has been a territory since the arrival of the Humans several hundred years ago. It has been considered a Kingdom after The Northern Conflict and the creation of the new Kingdoms. After the end of the First War some Elves made a home in the North, but the harsh treatment of the region during Elvish reign led to many disliking them. It was only after the Refugee elves swore allegiance and fought for Jarl Hanlin Ewart that the North began to accept them, becoming one of the few places a Wood Elf can live in relative safety.   Recently the North has hit hard times as Winter has been tough the last few years, the crown has sent little aid and groups like The Kinsmen have taken power where no one can fight back. With the aid of The Rikas the North would have the strength to fight, but that ally is struggling itself.

Geography

The north is mostly low rising hills and rolling grasslands. It is roughly split by the Ogedai River with a region of lowlands following it's path. The Direwood spans across the majority of the continent and provides a home for most of the Northern fauna, and providing a danger to most who go too deep into it.   The Northern coast is hit hard by the cold sea, causing it to be the only area of the continent to have ice and snow present. Although the North is colder than the rest of the continent it is generally fair and mild. The exception is Winter hits the North hard and the rest of the continent much less so.   The borders of the North are the Deradare River to the East, with the exception of Ridgemot which was taken over by the Human Crown and given to the Midlands several hundred years ago in the The Northern Conflict. And an agreed upon border in the west, with the North's closest allies, The Rikas. That border is a soft border and many travel between it, despite the Northerners being at times unwelcoming to travellers arriving.   Main Cities:     Major towns:   Notable Locations:

Fauna & Flora

Almost all of the fauna of the North are within the Direwood. Home to a large population of deer and elk. Mostly predated upon by Icefangs. The Direwood was once home to centaurs but they were pushed out during the First War. Many creatures like Throlls and Kralls scuttle through tunnels and caves throughout the woods, sometimes stealing from travellers and caravans and even nearby towns and villages. The woods are also home to large numbers of Ravens, a symbol present on many House Sigils in the North.   Hunting is common in the woods, but hunters rarely venture deep into the woods, as many say the wolves get braver, and bigger, the deeper you go...

Natural Resources

The North has little land great for farming, so they rely on growing tough crops like leeks, potatoes and carrots. Most of the exports of the North is from the Direwood, the wood from there is stronger and burns better than any other. There are many small ranches and farms across the southern parts of the kingdom, with cows, sheep and goats commonly seen roaming the hills. The city of Briarden provides the only other major export- iron. This comes from the very Northern Mountains the only other source of Iron being from much further south in the range. Fishing is common on the East and West coasts, although the fish from further north in the seas are generally larger, they are not as easy to catch and so fishing can only provide a part of the Northerners diet.
