Project: Syllabus Overview

Welcome to the PROJECT SYLLABUS Alpha Playtest! This is a mini game for your Ioth Academy students. It will allow you to simulate life at a school of magic, with all its challenges and wonders alike.   Please note that every aspect of this game is optional. If the idea of tracking health, stress and grades hits too close to home or just sounds boring, skip it! If you just want to roll on the adventure tables for fun things to happen to your student, go for it! Just respect what everyone else is choosing to do for their characters.   This is a work in progress and the entire system might be horribly unbalanced. In fact, it probably is. So please be patient, provide us with feedback, and expect constant changes and adjustments along the way.

Overview

This mini game is played one week at a time. Your quest is to complete the school year in good health and with good grades–and to have fun adventures along the way.   Each week, you will decide how your student spends their time while managing their health, stress, and grades.

Time

In this game we measure time in four hour chunks, or points.   You get 42 points a week to spend (6 points/day)   For most people, just taking good care of yourself and staying on top of classes, studies, food, sleep, and self-care takes 35 points (5 points/day)     That means, most students get 7 points a week (1/day) to spend on after school activities, studying for exams, hobbies, socializing, or getting into trouble.     Each week, you will decide how to spend your points. You can always pull an all-nighter to study up or sneak out of bed, but it’ll take its toll on your stats. Speaking of stats…

Health

To do your best at school, you need to take care of your body.   Your max and starting HEALTH is equal to your Constitution score.   Health is decreased by neglect (not getting enough sleep/self care) and by certain risky events or activities. Health is increased by resting and practicing good self-care.   When your health reaches ½ your maximum or lower, you suffer disadvantage on all attacks and skill checks.   When your health reaches 0, you collapse and must be restored to health by the school apothecary.

Stress

School is hard and teenage life is challenging!   Your STRESS starts at 0. Your maximum STRESS equals your Wisdom score.   Stress is increased by exams, low grades, insufficient self-care and certain events. You can decrease stress by resting, spending time with friends, and taking good care of yourself.   When your Stress reaches your maximum, you suffer a breakdown and must withdraw from classes until you’ve recovered.

Grades

Your grades are a measurement of your academic success at Ioth Academy.   Grades are measured across all classes simultaneously, because tracking each class individually is too much paperwork.   Grades start each school year at 0 and are measured on a scale from 0-100. If you end the school year with your grades below 60, you may be required to retake the school year or receive additional tutoring.   Grades are increased by completing homework assignments, attending classes, and passing exams.

Allowances

All students have all their material needs (food, water, clothing, school supplies) covered by the academy. In addition, they receive a weekly allowance for discretionary spending. On top of that, they can request Grants for special projects. To receive a grant, the student must prove how the funds and project will advance their development. A student can automatically get the Automatic grant, but must persuade a teacher to get anything above that, and under normal circumstances they cannot exceed the Maximum grant.
