Minotaurs are rare even in Ioth Academy, but most war wizards and scholars know Commander Untermauler well. He is the only instructor of the less-than-popular History and tactics of Battle and Warfare class, a requirement for only a select few specialties.    
Commander Untermauler is also the chief of security and, to the surprise of many, a storied diplomat. If a student is needed at the fringes of Ioth Academy or in the surrounding cities, more often than not they are accompanied by Commander Untermauler.

General Physical Condition

Stronger than a human but weaker than the average minotaur. Wiry and quick.

Body Features

His coat of wiry minotaur hair is turning white with age.

Face is scarred and knocked from countless battle.

Special abilities

War magic. Inril is an expert in abjuration and combat magic, effortlessly counter-spelling the works of magical threats and dismantling their arcane defenses. He can also blow stuff up real good.

Apparel & Accessories

His horns are adorned with dangling rings of iron and silver, all carved with mystical runes in the script of the giants.

Specialized Equipment

Inril carries with him a series of artifacts used to test the magical gifts of potential students. He seems to be missing a dagger from the set. He also wields a Staff of Power, an Amulet of Health, a Belt of Storm Giant Strength, and in dire situations carries Dimensional Shackles, a Daern's Instant Fortress, the notorious Satyr Sack (a bag with an inner lining of iron mesh, sealed on both sides by cloth to prevent contact), Ivory Goats and the Iron Bands of Bilarro.

Personal history

Inril's mother was severely sick when he was born in a cave in Gortuluth, the third of four Untermaulers in his family. As such, he was smaller than his siblings and his coat bore a bright light grey sheen.   The Untermauler Family came from a proud tradition of combat and military service, and lived in a well appointed underground manor. Inril enjoyed the company of his Mountain Dwarf and Galeb-Duhr neighbors, his childhood filled with memories of friends and family.    His father vanished while leading a patrol into dangerous territory ruled by the Designers of Torqueus. The family carved a labyrinth for him in their garden, walking it each day in the hopes that Aregajan Untermauler would follow the Winding Way back to them. As of 6863, Aregajan still hasn't returned.   When he came of age, Inril was conscripted by the masters of the Stone Cathedral. Comnall the Legionnaire's armies and summoned elementals drew closer and closer to their homes, and the Sea Temple to the west was falling. Inril's smaller frame and bright intellect helped him rise through the ranks as a leader and assistant to war leaders.   As his warband pushed closer to the Iron Grove, the Legionnaire sent bound Fey assassins and monsters to bedevil Inril and his commander. Too many warriors vanished in the night or awakened covered in wounds from fairy blades. Inril turned his attention to protection from Comnall's Fiends and Fey, and in doing so discovered a knack for magical laws and theory. He acquired the cold iron and silver rings adorning his horns in this time.   But it wasn't enough to save his warband from an ambush by the Designers. Enormous war machines dug underneath the camp and burst from the earth. Inril rushed to the defense and was nearly hacked to pieces, leaving him with scars he bears to this day. The Warband was routed with severe casualties, including many warriors and attendants Inril counted among his friends.   As he recovered back in Gortuluth, the Muinteoiri sent a mage to recruit him to Ioth Academy. He underwent an adult learning course and was accepted into the College of War.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Responsibility. Inril has lost too many friends to the depredations of the Infernals and their thralls. Ioth Academy and its students are his responsibility.     Inril also holds a deep and abiding sense of honor--not a superficial and fragile form of integrity that can be harmed by petty insults, but a profound dedication to keeping his word and fulfilling his obligations.

Speech

Befitting such an enormous creature, Inril speaks in a very low voice. Even after all these years he sometimes messes up one word for another in conversation.
