Prism, the City of Rainbows Settlement in Ammolae | World Anvil

Prism, the City of Rainbows

Prism, City of Rainbows is the only bastion of civilization in Ammolae. Its shining walls shimmer with the colors of the different gemstones embedded in it, casting rainbows out into the world at every hour during the day.
This is the birthplace of the Ray. It is the last place they have had to fall back to, surviving only thanks to the fortifications of the city and the protection of their gods. The city is kept very clean and always bustling. Though densely populated, crime is almost unknown because the Ray closely keep the rules for fear that a war within their own race would wipe them out. The penalties for breaking the law can be very harsh.
The city is broken up into districts that are closely tied to one God and the minor Gods under it. Undeclared Ray will be seen living anywhere freely, but those who have chosen a God will generally move into the district nearest that Temple.
Adventurers may not own property in Prism, but they may rent on a semi-permanent basis.

Government

Prism is ruled by the Council which has one member from each of the 7 temples and a member from the Guild.   There are no taxes as each Temple upkeeps their district. Tithing is expected from everyone who lives in that district, which makes it basically a tax, just not in name.   Laws are simple in this city. The revolve around not harming others, stealing from them, damaging property, or disrupting their life.

Defences

Prism is surrounded by a massive wall. Not only is the wall well made with proper battlements, it is protected by a series of gems implanted into the wall that create a rainbow of magic light that shimmers every so often. It perfectly guards the city from any attackers, and in an emergency the districts outside the city will be evacuated and the people will crowd into the city proper for protection.
