The Blackmoss Invitations

The Blackmoss Treaty, signed in 675 by the rulers of both Avalyra and Tiarun, outlines peace between the two countries in the face of a greater threat. The Orc Tribes in the Northern Reaches were growing stronger by the day, and attacks against both kingdoms were on the rise. In order to focus on their own border protection, the kings signed the treaty, each vowing not to attack the other. The name stems from Blackmoss Forest, the large woodland covering the southern border between the kingdoms, and is so named to distance the treaty from the failed diplomatic summit in 600.
The summit for the treaty was held at Greytoe Citadel, the otherwise abandoned citadel lying between the kingdoms. Organised by the archmage Aelua Keavaris, an elf from the city of Dubus, both kings were requested to attend. She sent letters, now known as the Blackmoss Invitations, to Dawnshield and Wuulstead, imploring their cooperation. These letters have since been kept preserved in the cities' respective royal libraries. She met with the two kings alone, not allowing any representatives into the room. The details of this meeting are thought to be known only to the kings' descendents, Owyne Gaillard and Aniya Tocuria.   Because of the treaty, and the letters that led to its signing, the united countries were able to reinforce their borders, pushing back the threat of the orc tribes. Since the summit, over a century of peace, albeit an uneasy one at times, has reigned, with conflict mainly occurring against the northern tribes. Aelua herself travelled north shortly after the treaty's signing, and has had little contact with the kingdoms since.
