There are a variety of groups and organisations in Amalgia, each with different purposes. From governments and political cohorts, to factions fighting for peace or war, and everything in between.

Many of these groups will heavily feature a high demographic of Materians, or Dyrus, depending on its founders and goals. Very few will see Materians and Dyrus working together. Those that do feature a decent mixture of the two species often feel like they have a target on their backs, up against the entire world as they fight against division and prejudice.

Connecting with the World Themes

Due to the nature of Amalgia, where Materians and Dyrus are at odds with one another, the majority of factions will either be combative or striving for peace. They will often tie in with the conflict and violence theme outlined in the Two Worlds, Colliding primer.

Combative Factions

These types of groups and organisations will often resort to some form of violence - be it minor instances of action, or a heavy handed touch - in order to try and further their goals. Of course, the intention of these goals may be good (like fighting for peace), but the way they go about achieving those goals ends up putting themselves and others in harm's way.

Then there are the radical groups. The kinds of people who will do whatever it takes to achieve their goals, regardless of the consequences. In a world like Amalgia, that typically means a lot of innocent people getting hurt.

“How long will you allow yourselves to rot beneath the wretched stench of Dyrus oppression? How many more of our people must die before you take up arms and fight back against such cruel injustice?

Do you think the barons will keep you safe? Those cowards fatten themselves on lies as your families suffer and fall under the weight of stupidity.

Now is the time to act, my friends. Now is the time to rise up, stand arm in arm with your fellow Materian, and reclaim what is rightfully ours!”

Peace Keepers

In Amalgia, where the divisions between Materians and Dyrus sows a constant distrust and fuels a seemingly endless violence, it can be difficult to maintain the peace. These groups are dedicated to doing so though.

They will always try their best to seek a peaceful resolution. That doesn’t mean that violence can’t be a tool that these groups use, but it is usually invoked as a last resort or as an act of self defence. Where violence is used by these groups, it is never to the point of excess, otherwise they would see themselves as no better than the combative factions that seek to instigate fight after fight.

We cannot give in to the temptation of retaliation. Not in the form they want us to, anyway.

Instead, we must stick to our ideals - our principles - and show the world that there is a way for it to heal. That it no longer needs to fight, to run, to lick its wounds, to fight again. That this cycle can be ended. That the bloodshed can stop.

Open their eyes to the truth through action: a helping hand extended, not a closed fist thrown, and one day they too will begin to believe in a brighter tomorrow.

Secretive Associations

Shrouded in mystery. Often working from the shadows to achieve their goals. These types of groups do not promote their intentions to the public. They may be completely secretive, to the point that all anyone knows about them is ludicrous conspiracies or off-handed rumours, or they may have a public front to throw off any potential enemies.

There may be some overlap with the other major categorisations, especially where a group’s ultimate goal is either to sow more chaos or try and restabilise the current political climate, but this is not always the case.

Supplies from Our Friend in Blue arrived last night. We’ve been through the shipment and everything we asked for is there.

Apparently, Baron Daggerfree is furious yet none the wiser as to our plans. In fact, the fool thinks Liberty is to blame for the region’s most recent misgivings.

Good, I say. Let them all think they’re at each other's throats. That way, when the time comes, they’ll never see who the knife that slits their throats really came from.

Miscellaneous Groups

There will be groups and organisations that do not fall under one of the three major categorisations (combative, peace keeping, secretive). This does not make them any less relevant to the world of Amalgia.

Each will have their role to play in the world. Each will have a personalised goal, a set of rules they follow, and other unique characteristics that shape the group as a whole.
