Hey folks! Want to keep track of what's going to be coming up - worldbuilding or story wise - with Amalgia? Well look no further than this roadmap, complete with details about the areas I'm currently focusing on, as well as the broader areas that I plan to focus on in the future.

Phase One (Current Focus)

• Added: Feb 2025
  Amalgia's World Meta
  I've already made a start on the world meta for Amalgia. In phase one, I plan to finish off the outstanding sections of the world meta and mark it as done. The reasoning behind this is so that anyone interested in learning more about Amalgia can easily find out what the foundations for the world are, and it should help me to align what I'm writing with what I want Amalgia to be.

  The Coalescence Event
  The Coalescence has been mentioned a lot already. You could probably pick an article at random and odds are it mentions the Coalescence somewhere on that page. But I've yet to actually define this incredibly important event outside of a vague variable, which I want to change as part of my phase one plan.

  Magic: How Does It Work?
  Magic plays a big part in Amalgia. One of the species wields it like second nature, whilst the other would love to use it to level the playing field. As it stands, I've got a vague idea of how it works (and you may have already seen some mentions of that in other articles) but I want to build on that and get the rules of magic down - primarily so that I can easily stick to them!

Phase Two

• Added: Feb 2025
  Important Characters
  I already have an idea of who these plot relevant characters will be, because I've already jotted down some notes on a plot thread to follow. But before I go any further with outlining, or actually writing, I want to make sure I know who the characters are - their motivations, personality, looks etc.

  Major Locations
  Alongside the important characters, I want to make sure I know enough about the locations they're likely to visit during the story to be able to write about them properly. There'll be some major locations that they don't visit too - at least not right away - but these are likely to be mentioned, so I would like to get some information about those written down as well.

  BONUS: Summer Camp 2024 Cleanup
  This may be a phase two / phase three thing, but I don't want to do what I normally do (which is leave my Summer Camp articles for years until I look back at them and go "oh right, those exist"). So here's my way of reminding myself that this needs to be done, at some point, instead of being put off forever - Summer Camp 2024: Let's Get Preppin'

Phase Three

• Added: Feb 2025
  World History
  To be honest, the current extent of Amalgia’s world history is ‘vague pre-coalescence stuff’ > the Coalescence occurs > ‘vague post-coalescence stuff’ and I would really like to change that. This will probably be a ‘post-coalescence’ focus, with some pre- events coming into play (but I might decide that the pre- events get their own focus in a later phase).

  The Seven Saints
  These characters play a crucial part in both the world history and the story plots that I’ve got planned, so in phase three I’m planning on writing more about them. Who they were - their histories, independent of each other and then shared when they became Saints. Where they are today - what are they doing, what is the public opinion of them etc. All those sorts of things. Plus expanding on the details I’ve already got down for Krysanthe as well, since the witch is the reason for the Saints’ existence.

  Plots, Plots, Plots
  I’m hopeful that, by the time I reach this point in phase three, I’ll have done enough worldbuilding in the other phases that I can start outlining the plot without having to worry too much about world or character lore. Strictly speaking, this will just be devising a plot (or two…) and outlining the story. I was never really good at that sort of thing before - being more of a ‘just wing it’ kind of writer, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve come to recognise the benefits of outlining big story projects.
