2.0 - A Growing Chill

The group gathers supplies for the trip north, past Fellbe, over Isvery Pass, and east to Lyston. Will they make it out of town before they are caught by high alert guards? Will they be able to withstand the cold and dark trek to Fellbe?

Plot points/Scenes

Flora Cycle Day 2   Shop down the street: Davidson's Bow and Stock   If they get caught leaving town -> chase. Chased by town guards.   If they don't get caught -> encounter in the woods near Fellbe.   Ice element has just come out of peak. As the party nears Fellbe, Kilith's stone seems to struggle to keep him warm. Anyone using fire spells (firebolt, dragon's breath) would notice with a check (DC 15) that their fire doesn't seem all that strong, and with a really high success they can glean that it feels like there's an opposing force keeping the fire from being formed. Alternatively, anyone using an ice spell (Ice knife, dragon's breath) would notice a slight increase in power (DC 15).   And lastly for the magic, it is Flora cycle, meaning that water domain/water based spells are desirable right now.  

Chase

If they spend too long shopping, they will encounter guards. The guards will stop and question them.   "What are you doing? Where were you last night after sundown? Where's your residence?"   Also, if they are not careful when leaving, they can be caught. If they take the main road out, there are guards posted checking everyone leaving and entering (though that's not many).   Guards are all Enforcers, with respective badges indicating "Guard" position.   If they fight, they fight. Guard statblock. 6 guards.   If they run, there will be a chase. Guards will chase them out of town until noon in the forest. Even afterwards, a hunting group will be sent after the party.   If they happen to be taken into custody, they will be brought to an investigator, who also wears an Enforcers insignia, but also a badge with the symbol of an open eye.

Night Time Encounter

They travel through the woods. Give them time to explore and investigate if they choose.   As evening draws near, they feel watched.   When night hits, give hints that something is about to attack.   Combat. 3 young winter wolves.   Arrive in Fellbe. Fellbe is mainly a straight street, so they are able to see a figure standing with a lantern at the far edge of town.

Backdrops

Locations

The forest. Most commonly referred to as the Ice Forest. It's cold; sitting just barely above freezing. It's damp, your throat doesn't dry out when you suck in a breath, but it chills your lungs. Frost forms easily on your face as you breathe out. A light, wet snow continually falls.   The road is kept clear of snow, but the forest ground is covered in a crisp layer of it. There are few shrubs yet you still can't see too far to the horizon because of a light fog that hovers in the air. The trees are thin evergreens, their tips covered in a layer of frost.   The overall scenery is very white and grey. Occasionally as travelers crest a hill, there's a clear view of the mountain range to the north and west, with Riner Is looming and towering into the grey clouds.   The closer they get to Fellbe, the dryer and colder it gets. More snow piles onto the ground. The dirt itself becomes frosty and very solid. The temperature sits at below freezing. The snow becomes frozen piles of crystals and thinner layers crunch beneath traveler's feet. Any prevalent shrubs are encased in ice, almost to point of looking like they are made of it. It's hard to keep fires going in the woods and in Fellbe.

Threats

Danger of getting caught if they make themselves too conspicuous or spend too much time in town.   Danger of getting off course and arriving in Fellbe much later into the night. This increases the chance of a more dangerous encounter from beasts.
