Oakheart

CEN LP, CE   -Beer and sausage was a thing of the past. -Raised pigs, at least used to  -food processing - drying of meats (pork and beef from cattle ranchers in new cresthill -farmers supply greatest amount of wheat in province -barley and rye grow best out in this slightly drier, soil in oakheart - made for unique and best brews (Wingman) -saltier soil makes for decent glassblowing industry, using other resources from merham     Once a bustling frontier town at the outskirts of the province that used to be the welcoming village on the way into Lefrendel (most travelers would stop here for a day or two before moving on to New Cresthill or Lefrendel City, the capital.   Its now almost so depressing here that travelers and merchants pass it up alltogether, even if the route is longer, they head through New Cresthill exclusively now.   An unexplained plague has been gradually taking over the landscape, making growing crops and raising pigs exceedingly difficult.   Most people living here lately are trying to hide from something (past, organizations, military escapees). Farming is difficult, they make money doing what little other things can be done (some not so savory)   The few true families that still remain living here are quite poor and destitute, low on resources. Grateful for the few travelers, traders, and merchants There are one or two stable few that still give the village a chance by stopping through.   this is very important for the wheat and hops growers at Crescent Moon Acres (Percival Quinn and Chip Stone) Thankfully they had very good storage techniques and saved up much grain and hops for their Wingman Ale, but supplies are running low and they both are thinking about moving on soon.   It has changed in the decade+ since Grizzo Madwood lived here. The village is not at all what he remember it to be. Write the previous vibrance and joy that he had growing up here. Especially, the big oak tree at the center of town, which is now completely dead and barren.     Some villain is spreading a growing corruption that is literally taking over the land. (Rinsaka? Other? Cult? Magic Item).   Maybe overnight the ground becomes even more nasty, and people are forced to live in the remaining oak trees in the area   Players can have a mystery mission. An investigation mission. And ultimately a final mission to find and remove the magical item or cult that is causing this.   maybe the rinsaka cult is working to find this item, putting together resources and knowledge, though unable. Sucking the life out of the land in the process.   They have been actively searching for a way to find it but struggling for a number of years, until the PCs come to town.   This will be a red herring. At first it will appear the curse on the land has been lifted as a result of the removal of this cursed object (fog lifted, poison clouds gone, etc) but that was just the excessive dark magic being leaked as a result of the cultists search for the object in question.   the item will be obviously powerful, but cursed.   PCs will be attempted to be swayed to give this item to an organization (specific member of an organization) that seems trustworthy and able to manage the (maybe a member of the Lythra sect that has been corrupted by Rinsaka and is actually a cultist/sanguis)   Finding and removing this item will remove the curse and carnage from the landscape, but it will also put this cursed item in the hands of the enemy, unknown at the time of the solution.
