Rupes Nigra
Geography
The Phantom Island of Rupes Nigra is a mountainous black rock located at the most Northern point in Alvez, a floating landmass island anchored in the air by 4 great chains, each a different metal, over a great swirling vortex of water.
The approach to Rupes Nigra is almost impossible, even to Windships, located at the far North of the Mor Marv and past the treacherous rocky fjords of Gandvik. The swirling whirlpool and hurricane force winds prevent direct approaches. The whirlpool, extending to the rocky sides of Ganvik, has proven impossible to traverse and no records exist for what lies beyond the vortex or within it.
In the center of the island is a large mountain, capped with a silver keep, burning a single lantern in the Southern Window.
Localized Phenomena
Rupes Nigra is crucial to the use of homefinders, directional tools used for traversing Faerie and Bleed. When pointed towards Rupes-Nigra, the shards of rock will vibrate and shine slightly, allowing a constant sense of direction in Faerie's unstable reality.
Fauna & Flora
Nothing appears to grow on the barren rocks of the Black Isle.
History
Rupes Nigra features heavily in the tradition of the Tuatha de Danaan, serving as the starting landmark of Nemed's fateful voyage from Old Faerie to Emain Ablach. It is unknown if the Eladan resided on Rupes Nigra or beyond it, but no attempt to return has been successful.
