Archimago of Menez-Mikael

Qualifications

An Archimago must display a high-level of Arkane aptitude, as well as the political savvy to obtain their position, typically having served as a mid-tier Sorser for at least 12 years. A test of power is usually given, but this is more a formality and source of entertainment and ego-boosting for the Arkanists than a formal requirement.

Requirements

Only Boermerzh (and in exceptional cases, Milliget) may become the Archimago and they must hail from Bediz sovereignty, although the majority of the holders of this role have been from the Western Realms, with very few exceptions.

Appointment

The Archimago can be appointed by their predecessor, their name whispered into a special signet-ring worn at all times by the former leader, only removed upon their death. The original Archimago holds all control over the naming of the predecessor, and can break with tradition and name any Boermerzh to the position, although this rarely happens and is usually a source of scandal. The Ring of the Archimago places an ere-hud on the cabal to accept the name once it is released by opening a small compartment on the ring, causing it to be heard aloud. If no appointment is made by the Ring, which must be opened if presented, then the Sorsers may appoint an acting Archimago. Since the Archimago usually dies on the island, it is very very rare that the ring will not be presented.

Duties

The Archimago is the holder of the Grimoire Mikaelis and leader of the Arkanist Cabal of Menez-Mikael. Exerting full sovereign control over the Island, they are treated as a noble of the rank of Count in the Court of Roazhon, with all the powers of that rank. They are expected to entreat with the Sidhe and Korrigan in an official capacity, further the study of the Arkane and of Faerie and develop the Arkane of the Bediz.

Responsibilities

The Archimago is required to act as the representative of the Arkanists, both in the Courts of Men and of Fae, meeting nobility or Faerie creatures in diplomatic situations. They are required to protect the secrets of the Arkanists, determining the release and publication of materials within the order, as well as authorizing or restricting specific experiments. They oversee a program for the training of Boermerzh on the island, as well as the recruitment of new membership from the nobility of the Western Realms.

Benefits

The Archimago has unrestricted access to the cabals resources, facilities and libraries, as well as those of many smaller Arkanist cabals looking to curry favour. They collect a percentage of all funds taken in by the cabal for services rendered to the people of the Western Realms. They are amounted at least professional respect in the Noble Courts of Bedouar as high nobility.

Accoutrements & Equipment

The Archimago possesses the Ring of Succession, a Rod of Taranis inlaid with Jade, and a large cloak to signify their role.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Archimago is only removed upon their death, with assassination being the most surefire way to trigger succession.
