The Black Marsh

Believed gravesite of the 20 missing persons from Novellus' famous expedition

A scent of mold and mildew crosses your nose. The chitter chatter of birds and insects reverberate through your ears, along with occasional slosh and squish of boots stepping in puddles and mud. A small taste of Black Marsh is enough to make many travelers turn around and seek alternate passage. Marshlands speckle Novius but the greatest of all is the Black Marsh a massive expanse of thick marsh covering around 4,000 square miles.

Geography

While called the Black Marsh it is more of a combination of swampland and marshlands. Containing many deep pits of water with underwater tunnels weaving and meandering with seemingly no design. Large and thick trees tower over many portions of the marsh.

The Gloom Lake

There is a specific portion of the marsh referred to as The Gloom Lake. A massive conception of browns and black water resides in the western portion of the swamp. It gained this name due to the hours from dusk to dawn this whole expanse of the Marsh turns remarkably dark and it is almost impossible to tell where the water is. On a few occasions over-encumbered adventurers have met a quick fate with one misstep. There is a remarkable beauty to the lake that only a few locals are aware of. On the night of a full moon and with clear skies, the lake water captures the moonlight. The water becomes a ghostly blue color that is transparent. Outlining the depths of the lake and the creatures that live within. The lake houses a large potion of the bigger aquatic beings found in the marsh, making this a remarkable sight.

Fauna & Flora

The Black Marsh is home to what is assumed to be the largest collection of amphibian and reptilian creatures in The Eastward Regions   Despite Novius being the longest inhabited region, The Black Marsh has remained quite untouched by society. No major cities or towns exist within its depths. The most significant society to exist within its depths however is that of the Bogdon people. Their treetop and submerged villages are the most advanced forms of life you will find among the many denizens of the marsh. Joining the Bogdon however are numerous different tribes of Kobolds and Lizardfolk of higher intelligence. Consisting of mainly tribal living with small huts and cave networks.
Bah, screw those bastard Bogdon They stole my game for the second time in three weeks! Do you know how hard it is to track a spined Alligator in those water networks? It's damn near impossible I'd say. Those freaks should learn their place below us.....damn swamp people
