Government

The city is organised and run by a council of representatives from the artisans, schools and interest groups of the city. The Cavalcante family maintains three of these seats for the establishment of Firenze and the huge influx of money they continue to bring to the island. The Adventurer's guild controls a seat on the council making sure that the nearby dungeons are well maintained attracting many adventurers to Firenze. The other eight seats are held by various groups, although it has been a rare four years when at least three of these seats haven't also been held by a Cavalcante or one of their allied families. Every adult in Firenze has a vote in the council elections. This has seen an influx of people to the city preceding the elections as other Tuomi's have hoped to influence the outcome of the election.

Defences

Firenze has little in the way of constructed defences with no walls around the city or standing army. It has always depended on its skilled citizens and magical defences to protect it from the few pirates or hobgoblins that dare to challenge its control of its lands and bay.

Geography

Located at the delta of the Firenze river, a naturally occurring wide valley the city has taken over the entire area. The slopes of the valley find homes for the farmers (mostly tallfellows and druids) that make use of the elevation to grow more crops. The plain and delta has been broken up into islands that have become permanent wih the building of the city. The river Firenze now passes through islands of brick and rock with only the richest villa maintaining a beach to the water. Bridges and gondolas give citizens passage throughout the many islands. The smaller islands are usually taken by richer artisans and adventurers for private residence or dedicated workshops and shopfronts. Medium sized islands are places of residence for the many inhabitants of the city. Some of these are gated providing more security for the residents. The larger islands at the centre of the delta are places for open-air markets surrounded by craftsman shops and vendors. Most of these contain inns and taverns for visitors. The large islands near the bay are reserved for the warehouses of the Cavalcante and Nord Tuomi merchant vessels. Each has a long well-built pier leading out into the bay allowing ships to berth with safety.
