Graz'zt

The Dark Prince Graz'zt

Divine Domains

Even though Graz'zt is not a god or deity, he still holds much power over the domains of shadow, deception and lust. Many worshippers pray for his gifts and some are granted them. In return, Graz'zt asks for rituals, sacrifices and corruption of innocence in return. Some are even granted powers beyond what most clerics can achieve. These few are incredibly powerful individuals, but often burn out quickly.

Myth of Origin

There are many different stories of Graz'zt's origin. Many of the origins contradict each other, but the theory most scholars seem to agree on is that Graz'zt is not originally from the Abyss. Most of the theories that support this idea are that Graz'zt originates from the nine hells. A common belief is that Graz'zt was an archdevil that served Asmodeus, and during an invasion of the Abyss, Graz'zt stayed behind as he could gain more power and freedom in his newly conquered layer. But a belief that has become more popular in recent years believes Graz'zt to be the child of Asmodeus and Malcanthet. Malcanthet was the queen of succubi who ruled in the Abyss, and it is said that during one of Asmodeus's invasion she manipulated him and conceived a child with him. This child is believed to be Graz'zt. The child would be raised in the Abyss and upon Malcanthet's death, Graz'zt would take her place and rule Azzagrat.

Personal history

During the New Calamity Graz'zt played a big part in Tharizdun's scheme and invasion. Graz'zt was given the second-largest army by Tharizdun, and he was given the kingdom of Shaldron to rule in his stead. Before this came to be Graz'zt was challenged to single combat by the God-King Rylaxian the Great. Graz'zt accepted the challenge but quickly learned that his power was nothing compared to Rylaxian. In the battle, The Wave of Sorrow, Graz'zt's blade was destroyed by Rylaxian's Moonblade Gil'Alden. Graz'zt's right arm was also chopped by the God-King. Graz'zt only survived because Axindal the demon prince of vampires stepped in and killed Rylaxian as he had a moment of weakness when he showed Graz'zt mercy. Graz'zt would recover from this battle and continue to rule Shaldron until he was thought defeated at the Black Peaks in the last battle of the calamity. It would later be relieved Graz'zt was kidnapped by Traberion Amonar and imprisoned in his Tower of Wonder. He was released from the Tower in A4 649 when a group of adventurers investigated the tower and released him.   After his release, Graz'zt went on to reclaim his throne in Azzagrat with little trouble as his right hand demon lord had kept the layers in check while he was missing. After cleaning his city and layers from enemies and disturbances, he went on to lead his armies against Thanatos the 333rd layer of the Abyss and the past home of Orcus. Devils led by Zariel had invaded Thanatos about 300 years after Dürthang as the layer was mostly abandoned, yet a seat of power for demons, never before had a side held such a big part of the enemy's territory and kept it for anywhere close to the 300 years the devils held "New Hell''. The archdevil Tazoth who had ruled the layer since their invasion had gotten lazy and prideful since nothing had threatened his realm for over a hundred years. This ignorance was used against him by Graz'zt when he invaded and had the devils running back into the nine hells within a few hours of his invasion. Graz'zt forces might have been fewer than Tazoth's when they began their attack, but as Graz'zt pushed further and further into the layer, more and more devils from other layers followed him and bolstered his ranks. His victory in the Abyss was not enough, he needed to show the entire plane that he was back stronger than ever. He not only pushed the devils and Tazoth out of the Abyss but followed them into the nine hells. He fought his way to the gates of the Bronze Citadel where Zariel the archduchess of Avernus had her seat of power. The battle-ready devils in Avernus gave Graz'zt forces a fierce fight and he eventually had to retreat from the citadel itself, but not before catching Tazoth and killing him for all the devils to see, including Zariel who was now storming into battle. Graz'zt made his retreat into the Abyss knowing that his victory over Tazoth and embarrassment of Zariel's forces would let the other demon lords and princes know that he was back.   Graz'zt placed a trusted demon lord as a vassal in the 333rd layer while he kept fighting in the blood war personally. His presence on the battlefield made the archdukes of hell increase their support in the blood war, something which would now reignite the war which had almost been put to a pause for hundreds of years. Graz'zt also got the support of other demon lords who would now send their own troops to continue the war, even the old demon princes who had pulled out of the war after the loss of the calamity was now sending troops and resources to Graz'zt, even the Demogorgon had left his slumber to send his demons to the battlefield once again. This support was only enhanced after Graz'zt was summoned by the same group of adventurers who had freed him from the Tower of Wonder a few years prior. They had discovered and obtained Nullbane, the weapon personally wielded by Tharizdun during the New Calamity. The weapon was believed to be one of, if not the strongest weapon in the Abyss, a true symbol of power. The adventurers gave Graz'zt the glaive and the power of pure evil from the glaive enhanced Graz'zt in every way, making him one of the most powerful entities in the Abyss.
