Azokar Character in Aloth | World Anvil

Azokar

Prince of Despair Azokar

Divine Domains

Azokar, although no longer a deity, still holds claim to some domains. Azokar is known for darkness and despair, but his true power and his main domain which he controls is negative energy. He has a strong connection to the plane of negative energy and can grant his followers the necessary power to wield it themselves.

Myth Of Origin

Some believe that Azokar was originally the deity known as Alerius Moonsong, the offspring of Melyna Moonsong. Melyna Moonsong was the second deity to control the weave much like the current Mystra. During her time as Mystra, she had a child called Alerius who would become the lesser deity of hidden lore and arcane secrets. He was the patron of wizards and those wanting to uncover forgotten secrets. It is unknown how Alerius would become Azokar but most believe he was trapped in the plane of negative energy after Melyna was killed, an event which twisted him into the Azokar of today.

Artifacts

Azokar's most powerful artifact is the Tome of Azokar which is his one remaining artifact from his time as a true deity. It is an incredibly powerful spellbook which grants its wielder unfathomable power over the arcane. Azokar also wields a black bone dagger known as Soul Stalker. Azokar moslty wields it as a focus for his magic, but its true power comes from its voidstone which makes each blow hit as hard as a gracing sphere of annihilation. Any necromancy spells channeled through it empowers it and makes them more powerful than their original circle, the dagger can also completely destroy a creature's soul if killed by it, making resurrections impossible.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Eight tendrils growing out from a spellbook with a black skull with red eyes.

Holidays

Azokar himself has no dedicated holiday, but the teachers and students at Shimmerford has a ritual known as The Burning of Azokar. It is part of the Weave Rebirth festival which is held to celebrate returning students and Mystra's rebirth.

Physical Description

Body Features

Azokar is a 9.2 feet tall and slender creature. His body is just a skeleton made from black crystalline bones with red veins of liquid running through. His eyes are two never blinking pearls of red which have a dim glow to them, when Azokar is truly focused or using much of his power, a third eye appears in his forehead.. Azokar's most defining feature are his eight black tendrils which all move on their own accord, but to his will and wishes.

Special abilities

Azokar's control and power over negative energy and the negative energy plane is almost unmatched in all of the planes. He can channel waves of energy or more powerful single targetted bolts at will and his tendrils can be used as weapons which attack with their own will. They are powerful enough to overload a person with enough negative energy to kill with a single touch, but their most deadly power is their ability to drain a creature for their powers and health. Azokar's tome which follows him has its own sentience and can cast spells on its own.

Apparel & Accessories

Azokar wears black tattered clothes and a hood which covers much of his head. His robes are adorned with his symbol and petruding bone spikes.

Specialized Equipment

Azokar is always seen with his tome floating next to him, and he often wields his Soul Stalker dagger as a focus to channel his own powers.
