The Lightless Coalition
The Lightless Coalition are known for their inventions and willingness to do whatever it takes to push the envelope and create something more. They are responsible for the creation of artificial lifeforms. The first known Artificers were Lightless, although by the end of the Age of Necromancers the class was beginning to become more popular -- especially among the allies of The Lightless Coalition, the gnomes.
Gatterfell

Gatterfell is the capital of The Lightless Coalition. It is on a floating island that travels from place to place so that it is never in the same area at once. It holds many people and many citizens. Each citizen of The Lightless Coalition, once mature, is expected to contribute something to The Lightless Coalition in order to help maintain the better whole of all its citizens.

The Livingsteel were the first successful artificial lifeforms invented by the Lightless. The picture above is of a H-Class Livingsteel, later using the pseudonym of Hearth, and each Livingsteel were created from the consciousnesses of a living being that was imported into an artificial body. The Lightless continued to work on the Livingsteel until the Z-Class Livingsteel proved to be as far as the Lightless could take the race.
Although there were some memory issues surrounding some of the Livingsteel, it did not always occur. They also found that sometimes a paranoia began to affect various Livingsteel as well, along will a feeling of superiority, such as in the F, G, and M classes.
At that time, they had yet to figure out what made the H-Class as adventuress as it was. Further experiments also showed that the A through G classes were rebellious and, given the right circumstances, would always try to kill a Lightless and escape. The H-Class would usually refuse and, eventually, tried to escape and succeeded without killing anyone.

The Automatron is the second artificial lifeforms made by the Lightless. It was a completely artificial lifeform without any type of biological life infusion. The Mark I was unstable but from the Mark II and Mark III, there were significant improvements and showed progress. The Lightless Coalition would also hire adventuring parties from time to time to help fight against the Automatrons in order to test their responses and abilities. The Automatron was worked on until the Mark XII when the idea was abandoned and work on the Warforged begun.
The Automatron was built with defense in mind and were where The Lightless Coalition began to move away from using biological consciousness as a basis for the lifeform. While the experiments proved fruitful, the Automatron was limited in its movement and thought patterns. It was a purely logical being, which was fine, but the intelligence was something lacking. It could recognize patterns and use a pattern recognition software to match patterns and, eventually, defeat even the toughest opponent.
The problem came when its opponents began to do things that were unexpected. This is where the Automatron would need to learn on the fly and this is where it failed and one of the largest reasons it was later scraped and The Lightless Coalition began to work on both the Homonoid and the Warforged.

The Homonoid was an android-based artificial lifeform. It resembled the humanoid it once was and was, once again, a sentient being prior to the biological life infusion into an artificial body. These Homonoid, unlike Livingsteel, could live and die as normal should they choose to. They had all the strengths of Livingsteel and were much more agile and dexterous than their Livingsteel counterparts.
Pictured above is Coya, a scientist, and great grandaughter of one of the H-Class Livingsteel when that H-Class was still human. She helped design the Homonoid and volunteered to turn into one once the Homonoid process proved safe through experimentation. The Homonoid is one of the first major steps in Humanoid immortality and shows a major leap forward in the process of creating artificial lifeforms.

While the Homonoid appeared more human, there was still more work to be done and The Warforged, pictured above, was that step toward a true artificial lifeform without the need for a biological life infusion to achieve such life. Although a warforged can certainly be a biological lifeform prior to this process, it is not required and a warforged can be artificial life from its inception.
The Warforged were built to further technology. They are not considered slaves as The Lightless Coalition recognizes that all life, including artificial and biological, deserve the same freedoms. As such, although originally experiments, The Lightless Coalition recognizes their right to live their lives once sentience is proven.
