Components: V, S, M (a fragment of bone or a fingernail from a corpse)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Skeletal hands or writhing bones erupt from the ground in a 20-foot square centered on a point you choose within range. For the duration, these undead appendages grasp and claw at the living, turning the area into difficult terrain.

Each creature in the area when the spell is cast must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained by the skeletal grip until the spell ends. A creature restrained by this spell can use its action to make a Strength check against your spell save DC. On a success, it frees itself and is no longer restrained.

The ground in the area remains littered with twitching bones and grasping hands for the duration. Any creature entering the area for the first time on a turn or starting its turn there must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained as the undead hands clutch at its legs.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the area of the spell increases by 5 feet in each dimension (to a maximum of 40 feet square) for each slot level above 1st.
