Shield Captain
A rank of great respect amongst The White Shield , it is given by vote to the the leader of a group of The White Shield. Only those who gain the trust and confidence of the select rank of this organisation will be selected to gain this honour.
Requirements
Any member of a local group of the White Shield can be voted in as the groups Shield-Captain, they are usually a good fighter as combat is a constant requirement when working against the foes who wish to further plunge the land into darkness.
Appointment
At least one every two years, or when a special session is called by three quarters of the local members, a division of the White Shield will hold a secret ballot for them to decide who will lead them as the Shield Captain
Duties
Leading the local division of the White Shield, planning how to complete their operations, organising patrol rotas and vetting potential new recruits as well as being the liaison with The Guardian of the White Shield.
Accoutrements & Equipment
The Shield Captain will, when wearing their armour, which is rare as they are mostly a clandestine organisation, will have a transverse white crest on their helmet and be equipped with a Shield of Warding
History
The role of a Shield Captain is said to harken back to the brave commanders who fought in the age of legends with The Lightshield Council, each a hero of the realm and a brave warrior and a natural leader who faced amazing odds.
Since the end of the Last War, the White Shield, formed in honour of the ancient organisation, remains hidden from the wider public and its Shield Captains are less often the radiant, inspiring heroes of legend but pragmatic and stoic individuals who can get the job done.
